Advantages: Good graphics, Great gameplay, SANDBOX AND ZOMBIES HELL YEAH!
Disadvantages: Annoying phone calls some stupid survivor AI and can get frustrating at times
Dead Rising, Zombies in a mall!? Awesome. What was that? How can they be awesome if they keep killing people and eating them alive? Oh my god are you stupid or something these are Zombies they blatently kickass.
Okay lets just pretend the above didn't happen, and I wont have to "visit" you. With milk and cookies. Now! On to the review.
Dead Rising is a wet dream for all of us zombie fanatics, And I've been hoping for a game like this since I first learnt what a zombie was It just seemed like a perfect idea, Zombies and weapons in a sandbox game? Im sold, and luckily according to Capcom, it is a perfect idea.
Dead Rising pits you off by taking you for a ride in a helicopter while taking photos of the scenes around you. You are Frank West a freelance journalist trying to capture the next big story by finding out why the government has decided to quarintine this entire towwn. You land on top of a mall after witnessing many brutal zombie attacks from the safety of your helicopter and as you leave through a door you meet a mysterious man who talks with you for a bit then you continue. The survivors here are holding out pretty well making a barricade against a huge mob of zombies outside the big glass doors. Now thats as far as I am going to go with the story here I don't want to spoil anything for you. Ha.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay in Dead Rising is in short. Amazing the amount of items lying about for you to pick up and kill zombies with is astounding and gives you an almost limitless source of entertainment as you try out all the different things around. As a photographer you can take photos of zombies to earn yourself "PP" which can level you up giving you more health, more item slots, more moves etc. etc. Also you can rescue some lone survivors in the mall who are surviving as best as they can, although this quickly becomes an annoyance as the stupid AI insists on not following you or taking a stupid route through a horde of zombies. Also the phone calls are downright annoying especially because you can't attack when answering a call and If you get attacked the call ends and you have to reanswer it to an annoyed Character.
SOUND
The sound in Dead Rising is great, with zombies moaning and clawing at you as you walk past and many weapon sound effects. Put all togethor with some music in some parts this can give the game a sense of creepyness especially at night when you slowly watch the lights in the mall automaticlly go off one after the other.
GRAPHICS
While not maybe the best on the Xbox 360, the graphics of Dead Rising certainly do their best and really give you that Zombie mall infested feeling which every zombie fanatic would wish to get. It can really feel like some of the movies sometimes.
OVERALL
Dead Rising is a superb game even with its flaws which can annoy you at times, The Zombie count is just great with hundreds of them in the same place at once it can get really hectic when you start running out of weapon options and the zombies claw at your feet, but when you have finished destroying a horde and you look all around at the many bodies lying around you can't help but feel satisfied with yourself for your hard work.
One last thing incase you didn't know Valve is releasing a Zombie survival game titled "Left 4 Dead" this should be a good game judging from the looks of it and I highly suggest you look it up.
Summary: If you are a zombie fanatic like me, you should definatly look into this game!
