Advantages: A lot of fun, good writing and great weapons
Disadvantages: A little samey, appalling graphics
Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon is one of those games that has received almost universally terrible reviews, but I had an absolute blast playing. I really don't understand the hatred. Let's get this out of the way first - it's not astounding, it certainly does have some bad points, such as the terrible graphics - I've seen better on the PS2 (seriously), the gameplay is more or less the same as the previous games (is that a bad thing), and if you're ultra-PC about it, it's racist (oh no it isn't.).
Graphics first. They're awful. Truly, the worst I've seen on the 360. Character models are ok, but draw distance and terrain detail is pitiful. Not much has changed from previous games, that's true. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, because they were great. And finally, the one that really gets my goat from other review sites - it's racist because there's a chinese level and the characters speak in a mock-chinese accent. Well, OK, but this is hardly the first game, or even TV show or film to do that, and there's also a french level which nobody complained about. In short, relax. This game is definitely not racist - it pokes fun at absolutely everything - why reviewers have picked on the chinese level is really a matter for them to decide.
Onto the good points - it's fun. Loads, and loads of fun. You get to pilot your UFO, blasting everything in sight and generally destroying things on a global level. What more could you want from a game? If you've played the previous games you'll know how much fun this is. If not, the missions are similar to old-school GTA style - go here, abduct this, destroy that, return. It sounds a bit monotonous, but the way the story is written is very well done and will provide a few chuckles, and missions are tweaked a little to keep themselves different from the last. The weapons are really varied and fun, ranging from the Zap gun, to the anal probe, to the giant, flesh eating plant gun. Each is useful for different situations and can be levelled up almost at will.
The game is of a good length for what it is - about 10 hours, and while this may seem short, any longer and I fear it may have gotten old. Overall, this game does have its flaws, but I say it's certainly worth a try, and if you liked the previous instalments, you simply must pick it up.
Summary: Certainly worth a rental, definitely not as bad as you've heard.
