DW6 empires is perhaps the greatest ever made in the series. The fighting system is an easy to grasp that can become more complex with the use of dodging, Grappling and specials. This is an addition to Dynasty warriors 6 where in exchange for a campaign mode you get an empire mode where you fight to conquer china.
The return of certain characters with new unique weapons has to be one of the best features while creating your own character and yet still the choices of clothes and attribute class leaves customisation richly diverse (you could be quick with a huge two handed sword or lightning fast with a spear)
One of the arguments I have heard against dynasty warriors is that they just keep remaking the same game again and again. This is a valid point from first playing dynasty warriors 3 to the present day, the game has changed little, I find however that this does not bother me because the original game was simply amazing and I challenge anyone think of a game they have played where they have thought " it would have been better if they had done this..."
and that is why loyal nostalgic fans will buy the next game and why new gamers should play this one if not the standard dynasty warriors 6, because it is a thorough bred game, like the Ferrari of the gaming world, the game has been groomed to rid of many annoying faults we all find in games and makes the game simply..... Fun.
Dynasty Warriors is back with its latest instalment Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires, fans of the series know what to expect by now but if you don't that is some button mashing!
To start off you pick one of the many available characters that return from the previous games, or use the edit mode to make your own custom character, and get set to recreate the famous battles that you know and love. The stories in this game I find rather dull and the voice acting is laughable, so nothing has changed here.
At its core Dynasty Warriors is about cutting your way through giant swarms of enemy soldiers, and it hasn't changed, mash on the attack button to cut your way through the masses occasionally unleashing a special Mosu attack move to spice things up, this doesn't really provide any challenge but its pretty satisfying!
You run around capturing bases thinning the enemy hoards and generally having a good time when you face officers, basically a boss character or the only enemy that will actually fight you. The difficulty then skyrockets as they can drain your health in a few hits, this will get you quite off guard especially if you are new to the series.
There is also a level system where you can upgrade your character and equipment which is quite enjoyable as some of the special abilities you unlock are really fun and more powerful weapons enable you to keep your combos going for tons of hits!
The new addition to this game is the Empire mode where you pick your character and try to take over China, reminiscent of the Galactic Conquest mode in the Battlefront series, you take turns to fight over zones of the country, there is a card strategy game here too where you use cards to your benefit during your turn.
A solid entry to the series and its fun enough though at this point the gameplay could really use some updating and for that matter the graphics could too.
If you LOVE the Dynasty Warriors Franchise & haven't bought one of the 'Empires' titles before then this game may well be for you. Its an entertaining mix of multi-enemy mad combo combat with swords/spears/clubs/pikes with a little extra in the way of strategy. You can decide your Empire's policy as you try to take over Ancient China in 4 different scenarios. Perhaps the most impressive feature is your ability to create your own character from lots of pre=rendered costume pieces with more unlockable items unlocked as you progress through the game. Facial features, hair styles, costume/armour colour etc are all changeable as is the style of fighting you favour for your warrior! The HD graphics are stunningly gorgeous if you have your xbox connected to a HD ready TV & combine this with a 2 player split screen co-op mode this is perhaps the most fun filled version of Dynasty Warriors to date.
