Advantages: Feels polished, is original, lots of new content, graphics look great, easily installed.

Disadvantages: Expensive.

Point Lookout is the third in a series of downloadable expansion packs for post-apocalyptic role-playing first-person shooter, Fallout 3. The expansion begins in a similar vain to that of its predecessors, The Pitt and Operation Anchorage, with the Lone Wanderer (The player) receiving a note on his Pip-boy wrist-held personal computer, this time informing him of a riverboat landing at the bottom of The Capital Wasteland. Investigating this area will lead to the Lone Wanderer meeting the ship's captain, Tobar, who boasts that for a small fee, he will take you to the old seaside town Point Lookout, a place where the bombs didn't drop, but a place the World forgot....

Point lookout is around one sixth of the size of the Capital Wasteland, and is a murky swamplike zone rich in dangerous natural gases and thick mysterious mist. You wont have to travel too far before you meet some of the less-than-friendly locals - Hideous, violent redneck mutations drunkenly slurring and lungeing at you, waving their fists and axes, firing their lever-action rifles at any interlopers. These Swampfolk enemies come in several forms, including the brutish sloth-like "Trackers." (see front cover.) fat, oafish "Brawlers" and emaciated wirey "Scrappers." The appearance of the swampfolk is mostly lifted from the film 'Deliverance,' which is an affectionate homage, but doesn't really give the game a great deal of points for originality.

But not everyone in Point Lookout is a loathsome inbred mutated hick, you'll also come across some very colourful characters, including an ancient millionaire ghoul, a sentient hologram professor, a christian missionary, and any number of misguided tribal hallucinogen-cultists, and bipedal mutant crab-beasts.

But alongside all of these new 'uns, you'll also find an equally massive number of new weapons, apparrel and chems, many of which are brilliantly conceived, such as double-barrelled shotguns, police hats, and the bizzarely mysterious Punga fruit. All of which complement the new missions, which are extremely original, (going on a vision quest, defending a mansion, uptaking a pre-war chinese spy mission.) perfectly. Graphics are excellent, with some brilliantly rendered new models. You can see the engine is really developing since the somewhat rushed original.

Like all expansions, you can visit Point Lookout before undertaking any other quests if you so wish. MUST HAVE FULL WORKING VERSION OF FALLOUT 3 TO INSTALL.

All in all, Point Lookout has a hell of a lot to offer, with all its new quests, characters, decals and items. It definitely feels like the most polished expansion yet, but I would argue that it still isn't worth paying the extortionate full-price of around £15 for, as at the end of the day, its just an expansion. Try and get it second hand, or save up your Microsoft Points to get your hands on this great addition.

Summary: A really good game but do try to get your hands on a cheap copy!
