Fallout 3 (Xbox 360)
Advantages: great story, massive world, lots to do, lots of weapons
Disadvantages: gets repetitive after you get about halfway through, dull uninspiring graphics
Having been a fan of the elder scrolls IV: oblivion, I was keen to see how fallout 3 compared. I have never played any other fallout games besides this one, so I cannot comment on how true this game is to the series, but none the less I will give my opinion. The game was very expensive when it first came out, but I managed to get it quite a lot cheaper from a shop that was having a sale. A few months on you can get a copy quite cheaply and I think that it is definitely worth it.
Gameplay: I really enjoyed playing fallout 3 from the start. The story is interesting and the voice acting is superb. It's a little slow off the mark for the first 20 minutes, but from then on the pacing is very good and always keeps you interested and involved. Its not your traditional first person shooter as ammunition is very limited and its quite easy to get killed. The VATS system (where you can select a body part of an enemy to shoot at) is a good idea, but after a while I tended to ignore it as I felt it reduced the immersion. The quests are varied, and kept me interested, and the amount of weapons is vast. I did find however that when I got about halfway through the game that it started to get a little 'samey', especially when I had obtained all of the different weapons that there was to get.
Graphics: graphically the game is pretty average. The environment is vast and massive, but the main colours featured are grey and brown. The game uses the same graphical engine as oblivion, and it shows. The game would have benefited from a total engine overhaul. Effects such as explosions are nice and there is rarely any pop-up or slowdown.
Overall I have enjoyed playing fallout 3, but I feel that it would have benefited from more variety and less bland graphics.
Summary: a very fun game which i would highly reccomend
