I downloaded ultimate team on the day of release and i'm still playing it now some many months later. The ability to build your very own dream team and take it online is a very good feature. However, coming up against an opponent who has trained every player to having an overall rating of 99 across the board does become quite tedious. All in all though I believe that ultimate team has been a much welcome addition to the latest game in the FIFA series.
I would definitely say that if you have the time to invest in building your team to pit your wits against other teams online then i would definitely recommend ultimate team to you. If you're not overly interested in that aspect then i would save my money and play regular games online.
All in all though, a very worthwhile and I will be looking for a new instalment come FIFA 10.
I wasn't really sure about ultimate team. I played the trial and decided there wasn't really enough substance there to warrant the price. However, a few of my friends then bought me some MS points and coupled with it being 50% off the other week I took the plunge.
I'd have to say I'd be extremely dissappointed if I had paid full price for it. Maybe I haven't fully understood the concept but I'll just summarise my experience. So, at the start you are given a collection of Bronze Player Cards, these are basicaly players who have overal ratings of about 50-60, with the odd one a bit higher and some a bit lower. You can then assemble your team out of these cards. The menu and navigation system is quite good, and I quite enjoy seeing the layout of the team with the real player photos. You also get cards which give you special powerups, for instance increasing the stamina of a player during a game.
So after getting my team sorted I jumped into it and went online, assuming there'd be some kind of ranking system only pitting teams of similar levels against eachother. Now my team was only half a star out of 5 stars at the start and straight away I am faced with a tottenham team packed with the household names, Ronaldinho Lampard etc. But on top of this the team also contained a player who was at least 9 foot tall, more skillful than ronaldo, and had rainbow coloured skin. I was being pretty competitive if I say so myself, however this, Rainbow coloured skillful reincarnation of Peter Crouch was impossible to stop, any corner or cross of any kind was a goal due to the bizzare height advantage.
So naturaly, I've worked out you must first improve your team offline before trying to participate online a bit. But after doing this some what I just feel that the execution of Ultimate Team is pretty poor. I don't see the point in having these over powered players as it just changes the balance of the game and becomes a game of who can pass to their superstar the fastest and try beat the entire team.
I think the idea behind Ultimate Team is great, and there used to be a card collecting idea similar to this on an old NHL game by Ea that I really enjoyed. But overall I don't rate the experience that well. Hopefuly with Fifa 10 they will have this built in and performaning better, and not use it as a money maker 6 months after the games release.
Ultimate Team... Ultimate money maker perhaps? This is a trading card style game where you invest experience points for packs of cards that include random players, training cards, stadiums, kit etc which are split into gold, silver and bronze packs. You can also use Microsoft points to purchase packs at any time. Here is my first problem, within days of release players were spending real money on gold packs to beef up there team (on daddy's credit card I'm sure) and after achieveing dream team status were entering bronze tournaments where real players who played for experience couldn't compete - half star teams facing 5 star teams. Other problems I have with this add-on/expansion to Fifa 09 are these: This wasn't a new idea for EA, it was planned for a long time BUT EA chose not to include it in the original game, it was a targetted money maker. Cards received in standard packs are generally terrible, e.g. bronze players in gold packs - but packs purchased with your hard earned include a higher percentage of gold players, top fitness cards, coaches etc. Fair? Hardly. This add-on goes onto your harddrive and its a big chunk of memory. Added to this the menu system is horribly slow, I mean painful. Players can be lost to ended contracts without warning, bye bye gold players bought with real cash. Players can be given abilities in game such as extra strength, pace etc - when you face a 5 star team with Torres and Villa benefitting from extra pace... well you understand what I'm saying. When did Fifa fall into this arcade style horror show?
However! As regular online matches and online club matches are currently over run by cheats using the dream team glitch, playing Ultimate Team might be your only option for a partially fair game.
Lets just hope Fifa 2010 includes a revised and monitored version of this gametype.
Ultimate team is a great addition for fifa, it is very addictive and can can be quite challenging keeping enough contract cards for a team full of top players.
It is based on a football card system where you 'buy' packs of cards using points you earn by winning matches, you can then swap, sell and buy new cards usign the online trade feature to enchance your squad. Other cards can also be used within the game such as training cards to enchance your players abilities, such as increasing the players pace etc.. All in all i found this game mode to be extremely enjoyable then only down side to it i find are the occasion errors mid game which cause you to disconnect and loose contracts for your players and also it can be quite hard at times to get a game agaisnt someone with an equal team to yours (everyone has 5 star teams full of gerrards torres's and ronaldo's with 99 stats for everything), all in all a very enjoyable game type and bridges the gap between becoming a bit bored of the old title and waiting for the new release.
Ultimate Team is the new add on for FIFA 09 on the Xbox 360 and for the PS3,You can get only get this for xbox 360 and ps3 online, it does not come with the games it an add on,Xbox 360 will give you a trail first then you either buy it or not.It will cost you 800 points to download then it saves to your hard drive
When i first saw this i thought it was not going to work so i tryed the trial version to see what it was all about,First of all you create your own team and name etc and you start of with some average players which like a rating of 50 to 60 etc.
You can then play games or join tournament to try your team out,When you win matches you will gain something called coins this is what will get you all the stuff you will need.Coins will buy you most things in this mode ranging from cards to kits packs.
The card packs are sorted into three types GOLD SLIVER AND BRONZE,The gold pack is the highest and will have the best things in the bronze is the lowest and will have average things in.When you buy a pack with your coins you will get a selection of cards these will be players, training cards, stadiums, mangers and kits,In the gold packs you will get the top players over Europe and mangers etc example one gold pack might have ronaldo messi and alex Ferguson in.
The hard thing about this Ultimate Team is to win the games from the start as your team is really average this is where its up to you to see you are up fro the challenge to take your team to the top,Another really hard thing is the player contracts if you get alot of player contracts in you packs your players contracts will run out and you will lose your players so its key to use them when you get them like i said before if its gold pack or sliver you will get a higher contract for your player ranging from 15 games upwards with a bronze its like 5 or so
The key to getting a good team is you have to develop your team around your style of play, team chemistry and the formation you choose to play.
At first i didn't think Ultimate Team would work and i didnt think it would really take off with people but i have been very surprised and i have had alot of fun playing this new mode, The best thing when you have the right team is to play online and challenge your team vs people all over the world its very fun.But this does comes with its downsides this is because people buy packs with real money this means they will have all the best players within like an hour and this is not fun and means your not doing it the right way,If you do this properly it can take a few weeks to build a team full of super stars
I would recommend this feature if you like manger games or you play manger mode on fifa as this is very much like a manger mode i rate this 8 out of 10
Having played the Fifa 09 ultimate team trial i decided to give it a go. I was unsure on the price though 7.99 seemed alot to pay for a update for fifa 09. When you start Fifa 09 Ultimate team they start off by giving you a whole squad of players all bronze pack players, these bronze pack players are from lower league clubs in countries such as England, Spain, Germany and many more the players you recieve i must admit are not the best of players from lower league clubs such as Bury FC. I must admit when i started off i thought to my self what have i spent my money on. But after a week my squad of players got stronger and stronger by buying silver and gold packs gradually by playing matches either online or offline i chose offline at the start because i was not ready to face the world with a squad of league 2 players i would of got hamered. Once you get coins from playing matches you can spend your coins either on buying players, kits, badges and healing cards in a auction or you can buy packs gold, silver or bronze, bronzxe costing the least and gold costing the most amount of coins. After a month i had a full squad of highley rated players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrihimovic. You can also spend Microsoft points on buying packs online. Overall this add on is well worth the money.
FIFA 09: Ultimate Team is an add on for FIFA 09 on the Xbox 360. You can only purchase this from the Xbox live marketplace and it cost 800 Microsoft points. You then download it from the marketplace and it saves onto your Hard drive so you can then play it in game.
The basic concept of this is to buy and trade trading cards in order to create your personal ultimate team, you can either scan the trading section for players you are looking to buy and bid for them or buy a packet of players for the Ultimate Team Shop. You can buy Bronze, Silver and Gold packets from the shop. It takes a long time to have enough money to buy the Gold pack.
After every game you gain money, depending on the score and how well you played. It also depends on the difficulty of your opponent. You can play games online right from the start but i would recommend you didn't becasue you will most likely get beaten badly. It is best to start with the training games so you can develop your team.
You have to develop your team around your style of play, team chemistry and the formation you choose to play. If you play players out of position the team chemistry will go down, there are various other things like this.
Personally i don't think Ultimate Team has lived up to expectations. I find it very hard to keep a decent team when players contracts are always expiring and the only way to renew is to buy another pack of cards which may contain only one renewal card.
FIFA 09 Ultimate Team is an add-on for the FIFA 09 game which can be purchased from your xbox 360 dashboard and you must have xbox live and an Internet connection to buy and play this add-on.
The basic concept of this is to buy and trade trading cards in order to create your personal ultimate team, you can either scan the trading section for players you are looking to buy or buy a packet of players for the Ultimate Team Shop.
After each match you are given a certain amount of points relating to the result your team takes from the game as you play matches against either your console or other Ultimate Team players online.
You must develop your team around your style of play, team chemistry and the formation you choose to play.
This is a brilliant game add-on and is really good for developing your skills on FIFA 09, I think practically every FIFA fan will enjoy this add-on and one I think is brilliant. When playing this add-on I suggest you build your team around one nationality as it build your teams chemistry more, gets you better results and makes your team over perform.
