Advantages: great animation, passing and 'feel' of real life game

Disadvantages: slow paced, 'floaty' shooting

Autumn time every year we the usual big debate over what is the best football game on the market - pro evo vs fifa. I myself as guilty as the next person, being a massive pro evo zealot! That's is why I am pleasantly surprised to report how good I found Fifa 09. The first thing you will notice about the game is the animation, smooth and precise, the passing system is second to none and you really get a genuine feel of the beautiful game. Graphics have much improved in this version and the vast number of stadiums, teams and just sheer options put pro evo 2009 to shame. On the downside the game play is very slow, especially compared to pro evo. This has been a problem throughout the Fifa series and doesn't look set to change. It spoils a bit for me as players with genuine speed i.e. Samuel Eton et al. don't seem to fly down the pitch as they do in real life. Same goes for the shooting, ever shot you take seems a bit 'float'. I found it just takes a bit of the enjoyment away when you're running up to a Cristiana Ronald 40 yard free kick and it just 'floats' into the back of the net as opposed to pro evo's version where a ball would fly through the keeper hands at 5 G's! This really takes away some of the 'feel' of the real life game. Minor complaints aside this really is a good authentic football game, it has all the ingredients to make a truly great game, let just hope in Fifa 10 they use this solid base to make something magnificent.

Summary: a good attempt at recreating the beautiful game, but minor snags prevent it from being trult great
