      Very good after all. Excepting some little inconvenients, the game is great.

      Yes, it does. As you will able to see in the next rows, this game is still worth getting. So, let's get started.

      As you already know, the Fifa series is developed by EA Games. It started in 1994 and since then, a legend was born. Today, Fifa 13 is my review's victim because it's a game I like to play and I prefer it over Fifa 14 or Pro Evolution Soccer series.

      Let's get straight to the graphics. Here, the game shines pretty hard. It's graphics are almost the same with the previous titles. Small changes here and there but nothing to be stunned about. After all it's still a sports game so the graphics aren't such important.

      The gameplay. It changed in the well direction, at least for me. I like the fine dribbling controll and the new First Touch addition. It's making the game so smooth and can help you score some awesome goals.
      The new features, like every single year, are not that much. Again, small changes here and there but that's it.

      The sound is ok and as usual, EA bring us a great soundtrack list. I like it very much and I got a new favourite song from this game. The GFX sound are also good and the fans just make you feel like you are actually inside the game.

      The big changes are on multiplayer. I enjoy it. A lot. I like Ultimate Team the most. It's a great idea of game and I lost over 50 hours only playing that. It makes you junkie after it. I just finished a good team and now I only play to relax.

      Overall, a great game. I would recommend it to anyone who's searching a great way to relax. EA done a great job with this, but failed hard with Fifa 14. Let's hope that Fifa 15 will be the next big thing. Until then, Fifa 13 is the boss for me.

      Overall it is a better FIFA than its predecessors

      FIFA 13 is overall a very good game. I like the game play, I like the features and I like the depth of the game.

      There are a couple of things I dislike however which I preferred on FIFA 12. Performing a 'lobbed through ball' is a lot easier on FIFA 12 and I believe that is more realistic as a lot of the higher football teams, in reality, perform this manoeuvre regularly. I just cannot seem to perfect this move on FIFA 13 as well as I could on FIFA 12. I believe the teams are rated very closely together which I do not believe is realistic as there are teams which are a lot stronger than others in real life but on the game they are rated very similarly. Likewise with some players I believe are rated lower than their actual ability or visa-versa especially with the younger players.

      I enjoy the challenges (or skill games) before the kickoff at the start of each match however I also enjoyed the one-on-one part of FIFA 12 so perhaps being able to choose between would be advantageous on the next FIFA games. The challenges do help a beginner get to grips with the game play and are fun to do whilst the match is loading as there are many different challenges such as dribbling around cones, shooting into barrels, volleyball football, etc. These challenges are also rated bronze, silver and gold making it a competitive challenge which is great for single players. I also like the switch between the commentators as some of the sayings use to get quite repetitive making FIFA 13 better than its predecessors. The game play is more unpredictable which is more realistic which I like yet also more fluid. The online play is good with many features but I thought the 'Ultimate Team' feature was confusing to begin with. The presentation is great and also the visual aspects of the game making it enjoyable to play especially in HD.

      The structure of the game has improved as its trying to make end-to-end play a lot harder which is more realistic. It generally is a more realistic game play and a perfect game for a football fanatic. I have not played FIFA 14 yet which I would like to give you an opinion to which is better but I cannot, I just hope some minor improvements are incorporated into that.

      A very good game with some major enhancements

      Now I have to say, I am a die hard Fifa fan. I am one of those who will pre order just to get the special DLC, or pay an extra £10 for a few ultimate team packs. When I ordered the game many months back I was quite optimistic with the new engines that had been implemented, with the CPU players having increased intelligence in certain situations. The ultimate team was said to have been vastly improved, whilst pro clubs had been made into a major part of the game. Plus the career (which i do not play) also was given many new features.

      However, after a few days of playing the game, I found myself becoming much more annoyed with the gameplay. Now many would put it down to the gamers skill, I mean I admit, I am no fifa god. But thats really what this game is, there is such a divide now that EA has created. The game has really been made for the very skilled players, which has really isolated the casual gamers. The first touch on this game is horrendous, even players like messi, with amazing ball control still manage to touch the ball so far away from themselves its unbelievable. I also noticed how the game has been made for pace. By this I mean, if you have a player with 90+ pace, it makes it almost impossible to defend against. This was always going to happen, I just hoped it would have been a little less obvious. This is where the divide is created, if you are a skilled player you can adapt your tactics to deal with the opponents team, but for the casual gamers, realistically you just want to play the game without having to alter tactics every game....

      Once again though, this is the best in the series, EA have vastly improved on many of the fifa 12 features. Ultimate team has been greatly enhanced, it has finally been recognised for it's huge popularity. The overall gameplay has been made better, with defending and attacking made more of a challenge and the option to now change how much the CPU aids you. The trading system in ultimate team has been made more realistic, with prices much more stable than previously. The way you earn money through games has in my opinion been a major success. Instead of giving you a fixed win price, the game judges how you play under many different factors.... this is then totalled with a DNF modifier to give you a total coin prize. The DNF modifier is a welcomed edition. There was nothing more annoying than someone quitting half way through a game and receiving no penalty, but now there DNF will be decreased, reducing the amount of coins they earn per game. The maximum you DNF can get to is 1.25% which is quite a healthy amount of coins added if you play well. For example if you earn 500 coins in a game, you will now receive 500 x 1.25% = 625 coins. A major incentive to not quit! The team chemistry has also been enhanced, allowing for a more diverse squad. There are many more positives, however now to discuss some negatives. A major problem for me, and many others is connection. Now EA constantly promise better servers, but i see no change. Now I never leave a game, preserving my DNF, so the most annoying thing for me is when I lose connection the the EA servers, 9/10 times not the fault of my internet. BUT THERES!! this then reduces my DNF, so there problems directly affect me. I have rang them numerous times and get the same line everyone does, 'we are aware of the problem, we will look into it'. When you still have the problem 6 months later, you realise they are doing nothing about it.... Yet they are always updating ultimate team, I mean every week there are new players, updated cards and packs. So although annoying, at least they do work on making the overall experience better.

      Moving onto pro clubs. Something that has been heavily enhanced in fifa 13. I really like the new layout, the extra game modes and also the better accomplishments. The EA store allows you to purchase extra boots, celebrations and even upgrade your player. For the first few months, it provided endless hours of fun for me and my mates. I got my pro up to a very high rating, and it really was great. However, after a while you start to notice a number of problems. The defaults are absolutely awful, although I play in a 5 star team, I see very little improvement on the default players which apparently should happen when increasing the club star rating. Also some of the accomplishments are impossible to get. Not just hard, but literally impossible! There are achievements that overlap.....

      Now how can you ever get both of them, but if your like me and played in normal weather you can't get either, thats just completely ridiculous, its like they didnt even think it through! However, as i said before the layout has been improved greatly. The points system is much better, now in a league format with 10 divisions. Cup games are much less glitchy, and provide a good prize at the end.

      I honestly wont try to comment on the career mode as I dont play it, as a gamer i prefer to play against other players and not the computer. However my friends do enjoy it. Apparently the trading system has been greatly improved etc....

      The price on launch was the standard £40, but now you can easily pick it up for under £20. At that price it is a great buy, but with fifa 14 coming out soon is it worth it? The answer for me is no. When I got the game it took me about 2 weeks to really understand how to play and take advantage of the new features. If I were you I would either buy a pre owned copy for even cheaper if you can't wait or pre order fifa 14 and be done with it. The overall game has been a great success, but for me marred by some really irritating problems, some of which could have been sorted out.

        The best football game out there to date!

        == FIFA 13 ==
        As we all know the FIFA games come once a year and here comes FIFA 13. The only problem I have, is there enough difference from the previous game? I for one believe there is and this FIFA has the biggest change in a few years. Not only does it have new bits in the game but it also features a few new players on the cover and yes that means no Wayne Rooney. FIFA 13 for those that don't know is a football based game and was developed and published by EA Sports. The game is available on many platforms including PC, PS2, PS3, PS Vita, PSP, Wii U, Wii, 3DS, iOS and of course the Xbox 360. Some of the new features in FIFA 13 included the First Touch Control, a whole new bunch of celebrations and a EASFC Catalogue (explained below).

        There are a few different versions of the game available to buy which include the Ultimate Edition which gives you 24 free gold packs for Ultimate Team mode. There is also the Bonus Edition and Normal Edition versions of the game. Bonus Edition also comes with free packs and a few other bits but the Normal Edition just comes complete with the game. FIFA 13 offers new teams and new stadiums too but still not enough for fans of other teams that haven't made the cut. FIFA 13 also supports Kinect for the Xbox 360 but it is NOT required.

        === GAMEPLAY & GAME MODES ===
        The gameplay to FIFA 13 is quite different to FIFA 12. FIFA 12 was a little too quick and a little unrealistic at times but FIFA 13 is more realistic in terms of gameplay but not so realistic in terms of end results. I have played numerous online matches where I have won 6-0, 8-4 and even lost 5-6 after being 5-0 up. I do feel the game is better than FIFA 12 and EA Sports seem to get it just about right every year. There are tons of new gameplay features and a few new game modes with a lot of added features in the old game modes too. All of the usual stuff such as match length and weather conditions are the same. The game does features numerous camera angles to suit how you like to play. Also the gameplay is more slick and much smoother than previous football games.

        FIFA 13 still features the player impact engine but obviously its been touched up a bit to feel more realistic and to be fair this really does work well. Tactical defending is back in FIFA 13 and at times it does look great, but others it just doesn't work like it did in FIFA 12. Something new to the game is the first touch control which at first I thought was fantastic but after many arguments with the game itself, its actually not as good as I thought. You have fantastic players such as Messi making very clumsy mistakes in the game and we all know if Messi does make a mistake he comes up with something else magical because that's the type of player he is. The first touch is the most annoying part of the game but when it does go right its incredible.

        I do feel the referees are a lot stricter in this game as they are in real life. With hundreds of clubs, thousands of players and a couple new stadiums FIFA just gets better and better. The main game mode for FIFA nowadays is FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) but it does require you to have an Xbox Live Gold Membership as well as an internet connection to play. In this game mode you start by creating your own team name and add players you like as you earn coins from playing matches and competing in tournaments. You can use the coins you've earned to buy bronze, silver or gold packs which contain different rated players. In the bronze packs you find only bronze players, kits, consumable items and stadiums. Its also the same with silver and gold packs meaning the gold packs contain all gold items but cost considerably more coins. You can also sell your unwanted players and buy players that you cant seem to get in packs. These are all sold and bought by other gamers online.

        Career mode has been much improved and probably the biggest improvement in a FIFA game. One of the highlights is the fact other players still buy players but you don't see as many stupid transfers as you did. I remember playing FIFA 12 Career mode and I witnessed Bolton Wanderers buying an in form Javier Hernandes from Manchester Untied and on FIFA 13 the most extreme I had seen was something like Cristiano Ronaldo going back to Manchester United or joining Manchester City. One of the major flaws to Career mode is the very frustrating older players because if you buy a player in his 30's and he doesn't play because of injury or for another reason then his overall rating drops and his stats drop. If that was the case in real life wouldn't Ryan Giggs be playing in the football conference by now? Its awful, annoying and very strange how quickly their rating can drop. Something else new in Career mode is now you can manage an international team as well as your current club and this is definitely one of the major improvements from FIFA 12.

        You can also play as just the one player you have created and start at the lowest ranks working your way up to a massive club and gradually making your debut for an international team. There are numerous game modes to play but a lot of which is for Xbox Live gamers only such as Pro Clubs which you create one player and play online in a team you've created and you can also add friends and other gamers to play in your team. There are online tournaments available to play in this mode but you must have more than yourself in a team. If you have two players then the rest is controlled by the computer. There is also Seasons Mode which is online also, the main aim for this is to win and get promoted to the highest division. You are put up against other online players that are in the same league as you in terms of difficulty. Something new and impressive is the EASFC Catalogue which enables you to buy all sorts of goodies to use in all different game modes. You earn other types of coins for each match you play which can be spent in the catalogue to buy new kits, boots for your pro, FUT coins boosts, new celebrations and much more.

        === GRAPHICS AND SOUND EFFECTS ===
        The graphics for the FIFA games have come a long long way over the years and are absolutely brilliant in FIFA 13. To be honest they have taken a massive step up from last year with a lot more players and teams agreeing to the face scans. Almost 60% of the premier league players have had their face scanned and look exactly like they do in real life football. The 60% is a massive step up from previous games because it used to be just as little as 20%. Also the stadiums in the game look incredibly real but one thing that hasn't changed an awful lot is the look of the crowd but lets not dwell too much on that. FIFA 12 had quite a few glitches in the graphics and gameplay but this time around EA Sports have done really well correcting this. Overall the graphics for FIFA 13 are a massive step up from FIFA 12 and does make this the best looking football game so far to date.

        Now the sound effects for FIFA is usually a hit or miss and I still feel this is something EA has not perfected. It is however better than the last FIFA game and this is mainly because the actual game effects sound really good and quite real. The crowds are still not right in my opinion, music is still a little off but it does have some better music and it does grow on you. Now the commentating? Well this is one part that can be good at times, bad at times and also weird at times. Its hard to describe because the commentating nowadays is a massive part of a football game. Overall I do like most of the sound effects but I still feel there is room for improvements.

        === DIFFICULTY AND LONGEVITY ===
        The overall difficulty of FIFA usually depends on how good you are and what level you choose to play at. The Ultimate difficulty setting makes a return after a brief spell back in FIFA 12. Online gameplay usually depends on who you are playing and how good they are, usually quite mixed in terms of difficulty. There are numerous difficulty settings for all types of gamers which include amateur, semi-pro, professional, world class, legendary and ultimate in that order of easy to hard. I think amateur is pointless because its far too easy and the better gamers could do it blindfolded. I always play on ultimate but even now its quite easy with the team I have. Ultimate Team mode is great for difficulty because of all the different tournaments and leagues available to play with numerous different prizes. Also some can be played again and again but get harder. The controls for the game are reasonably good and fairly easy to get used to.

        Now longevity of the game really depends on how you feel about football, how much you play the game and how often you get on it. If like me you love football and play FIFA almost daily then I think within a few months you will get bored quite quickly and be looking for a new game to buy. If you go on a few times a week I think your patience will last a lot longer although it is football and can become frustrating. Usually the downside I have about FIFA is that EA Sports bring one out every year around the same time so it only lasts a maximum of one year. You're not going to want to play this much by the time FIFA 14 is out with all the updated teams, players, kits and all the new bits. Overall I think the length of the game is okay.

        === PROS ===
        *The gameplay is amazing and no two games are ever the same.
        *The EASFC Catalogue is a fantastic idea and it really works well.
        *Improved Career mode considerably with a lot of new things added.
        *Ultimate Team mode returns with updates and looks even better than it did last year!
        *Shooting is crisper, passing is much better and the tactical defending is getting better!

        === CONS ===
        *The first touch can be awkward and annoying at times.
        *No improvements really in terms of sound effects other than a few bits.
        *Its football so its always going to be annoying at some point.
        *More fun if you're connected to Xbox Live, if not there isn't an awful lot to do.
        *Stupid 5 minute rule. If you score before the timer reaches 5 minutes the other online player can quit and it wont count as a win for you or loss for them.

        === FINAL THOUGHT ===
        We all expect FIFA to get better every year and this year is no different. All the added new bits make the game even better and could easily have set the bar for the next FIFA a little too high but only time will tell. FIFA 13 offers new features to its game modes and updated players, stadiums and more so what else could you ask for. Obviously the game can be really annoying at times, its still a fantastic football game and definitely the best one out there to date.

        I have spent many hours playing FIFA 13, even more so than FIFA 12 and previous FIFA games. The game has an age rating of 3+ and is suitable for all gamers with a difficulty setting for newcomers or even experienced gamers. I would definitely recommend the game to sport fans and fans of football because it truly is the best out there. If you get annoyed easily by football then be prepared because this game will have you ripping out your hair in no time!

        The price of the game varies depending on when you get it and where you get it from. I was outside Game at midnight on a Friday for the launch as I am a massive fan. It ended up costing me close to £50 because I got the Ultimate Edition. Luckily the game has dropped considerably now because its not too long before the next installment is out. The game can be picked up around £20-£25 which is quite good but you might want to wait for the next game now.

          a great game just let down by the virtual pro side of it on xbox live

          i understand that in the previous fifa game you was able to level up your virtual pro online and in the practice arena which is what made the previous game better than fifa 13, in fifa 13 there is only one way to level up your virtual pro and thats to play drop in matches which means you are relying on all the other players to pass to you so you can complete the accomplishments to become a higher rated pro.

          Sounds easy right well you are wrong before i go into detail the rest of fifa 13 is amazing its a flawless game and worth buying for FUT and career modes, The main reason virtual pro is bad is because the other players you play with either do not pass to you, they stand still in a game doing nothing or just bring the goalkeeper out to make you lose and more.

          Overall the game is good if you don't plan on using the virtual pro feature of this game, well worth a rent atleast

            Some nice changes but ultimatley not enough from FIFA 12, with the same bugs reaccuring.

            FIFA 13. Or FIFA 10.3 for the comedians out there. EA Sport's latest release in their ever popular FIFA franchise, in my opinion, its popularity comes mainly from its lack of competition, with Pro Evolution Soccer being its only clear rival. Anyway, this installment of the franchise, in one word, is "meh". FIFA 13 implements it's new Attacking AI mumbo jumbo, to which I haven't really noticed whilst playing the game, a few changes to career mode, the same ultimate team with a new layout, standard roster and kit updates, new "skill games" with the only skill required being able to hold a controller. Those aside, it really isn't different from its predecessor FIFA 12. A re-vamped layout apears as you first start up the game, most notably when starting the game however is the lack of the loved Arena mode (still in the game but under a seperate menu). But the modes available aren't much different aside from the "skill games" and the EA Sports Match Day sub-title which is just the basic single player, one match modes. Fancy menus, and "skill games" during what was arena mode during the pre-match loading point, aside, there's not really much to talk about when it comes to the kick off mode and basic gameplay. Despite the apparent update to the Impact Engine from FIFA 12, many, many, many glitches, flying players, break-dancing players and what looks to be player's joints getting snapped into impossible places are still occuring. Not a good thing. On a plus note, the Career mode changes are a nice boost, with the youth teams players now getting to a good overall in a short time rather than in FIFA 12, having to wait until your player was 24 years old to get into the 80s, by which you will have lost interest in that game save. However, one of THE most infuriating features of any FIFA game ever was introduced this year. Classified results. Jesus. There I am, banging my head to some great tracks after thrashing QPR 5-0, all estatic, and then I get to the mnu screen to har my music fade out and hear a drudgenous voice read out the result between Wigan and Stoke, whilst accomponied by a horrible, generic music track playing in the background, as the guy reads out every result, then every then every table standing, then every match coming up and then the cup ties, and to my knowledge, you cannot skip it. The first time I heard it come on I facepalmed and smacked my hand on a nearby Cornish pasty. Ultimate team is more or less the same as in 12, with a new layout and the popular seasons mode, both online and offline, added to the playable modes. Whilst th colours of the cards remain, bronze, silver, gold, black and all the shiny variables, I bet my house on the fact that EA introduce new colour cards that enhance gameplay (better translates as "Gives EA more money because consumers are gullible sods), such as "Player of the match", spurning orange, yellow, purple, grey, pink, rainbow, turqoise, maroon, green with beige polka-dots cards. You get the picture. Anyway, this mode still has the same addictveness as last year, so any of you who buy FIFA purely, for Ultimate Team - you're fine. Whilst I always seem to say "I won't pay for any packs this year" I always seem to end up doing it. Either due to lack of contracts, injuries or just no cash and I can't be arsed to play matches to get coins, I'll always buy a few packs and in a few years will need that money in an important life choice and look back and stick my fingers up to EA. The delightful mony-grabbers, excuse me, EA, have however brought back the EA Store system, in which you get in game coins which you can spend in said store to buy new boots, kits, celebrations and Be A Pro mode stat boosts. Another plus of the store, is that, to my knowledge, there is no way to buy coins with real world moeny - thumbs up EA! Anyway, also in the career mode, Be A Pro has had a lovely makeover, now, your player can be sent on loan or transferred at any point in th transfer windows (be it by player request or the club thinking you're as useful as a chocolate teapot) which offers you a break from playing the same teams, same players etc. which is a nice touch. Aside from that, your player will still not get subbed off unless he gets injured or sent off, which is an annoyance, making you skip the next match due to a lack of fitness. Skill games. They're alright. The less said about them the better. Unrelating to football, the soundtrack, as it normally is every year, is the unoticed gem in the game. Some great tracks feature on the game, all of different genres, unheard artists mixed with some popular ones, at least 3 songs that you'll be humming whether it's playing in the background or not. Good job with that EA. Overall, some of the smaller changes were a nice touch but the game as a whole lacked enough changes to warrant the 40 odd quid I spent for the umpteenth year running on this quite frankly broken game, despite the "updates".

              A great game which has been let down by EA over thinking certain changes that didn't need to be made

              Where to start with Fifa 13... The Pro Clubs Disaster, The 'New and Improved' First Touch.

              Let's start with Fifa Ultimate Team. Over the past 3 years, Fifa Ultimate Team has just got better and better and this year is no exception. With the introduction of online and offline seasons game modes and the reward of up to 10,000 for winning a single season, EA really have succeeded in improving the variety of game play options in Fifa Ultimate Team. The trading is again very good with the same system as on Fifa 12 and there are certainly not as many glitches as there were on Fifa 12 Ultimate Team. The only exception to this is the odd game where I have played without a ball! This was a 1st for me and so I found it quite funny however it has never happened again so credit to EA for fixing this problem.

              Next on the agenda is Career Mode and Offline Play. These game modes have also been improved with many features being added such as international management. This gives the users the chance to manage international teams through international tournaments. I like this feature because it adds another dimension to the game which was missing on Fifa 12.

              Now lets get down to the disappointments of Fifa 13. I will start off with the new first touch system. It was designed to try to make Fifa 13 more realistic however I believe that on some occasions it has ruined the game. Players will suddenly lose concentration and completely mess up a perfect lobbed pass or a pass which was hit only slightly too hard for the player's liking. This can be very annoying as the player and so this is a major let down of Fifa 13.

              Next is the Virtual Pro and Pro Clubs mess. On past Fifas, certain players decided that they would rather hack their way to a highly rated virtual pro. This meant that in the odd game, you would come across a 99 rated player who was 6ft tall and very fast indeed. On Fifa 13, a new system has been put in place so that you cannot train up your virtual pro offline. This has made it much tougher to make a highly rated virtual pro and so this has brought down the standards of pro clubs. I don't believe any change was needed in the virtual pro system and so this has again been a let down on Fifa 13.

              In conclusion, I think that EA has changed too much while creating Fifa 13 and so they have slightly undercut the expectations of myself and other players. While making some game modes absolutely fantastic, they have made others unplayable. It is worth buying however I hope EA recognize that Fifa 14 needs some features changing back to how they were on Fifa 12.

              It will take some getting used to, but can be a thoroughly enjoyable game now that it's been patched

              Building on the success of last year's outing, EA Sports have released FIFA 13 to critical acclaim from many within the gaming industry. The consumers, however, are less than satisfied.

              -Menus-
              The same old FIFA menus are back. Straight forward and simple to use, with a boxed design. It flows well when sliding across to select something, but when selected, the menu still pauses for a moment, while your selected player runs off into the distance to continue a completely irrelevent animation. During this time, the game will communicate with the servers for seemingly no reason whatsoever.

              Access to the EASC (EA Sports Club) feature has been improved. A simple 'X' on your Xbox 360 pad will take you there, and from here, you can see where your favourite team is in the league standings of FIFA players, while also being able to purchase items from the shop which will help you along your FIFA path. Be it Pro improvements, extra coins in Ultimate Team or a free pass for the next match, it's all in there, and the purchase can be made with EASC Credits (bronze in colour, to help separate it from the gold coins you use in Ultimate Team) which can be earned match-by-match, or bought using Microsoft Points and/or cash from a Credit/Debit card. This is essentially another money-making scheme from EA for those who want to get ahead of the game quickly, and are willing to pay through the nose to do it, which is majorly frustrating when playing against them online.

              -Licenses-
              All major leagues, bar the Italian Serie A league, are licensed, and an update brought about Napoli's kit change, as the stock game had a generic strip listed due to licensing disagreements. The Saudi Professional League makes its debut alongside the familiar leagues of FIFA 12, while recently-relegated Glasgow Rangers are included despite their current place in the Scottish Divison 3.

              International additions this year include India, Paraguay and Venezuela (who have fictional players in the default starting XI, but this is editable), and, surprisingly, the Czech Republic

              -Appearances-
              Comparisons with Pro Evolution Soccer are usually made here, with FIFA again having most of the correct lettering and numbering, as official licensed vendors of the teams/leagues. This means that Premier League numbering has the Barclay's lion on it. A small, yet satisfying point that makes the experience feel more in depth.

              Stadiums are also, once again, excellent. All developed to the specific scale of their real-life counterparts. Player faces, however, still lack that customisation at "smaller" teams, meaning even the most recognisable player that team has, will be generic footballer number four. Sad that EA don't do a new round of faces during the year that they develop the next game, instead electing to carry the last ones over with minor adjustments and additions.

              -In-Game-
              The cosmetic side of the game has once again improved, as well as the additional control of 'RB+A' for the passing player to make a run. The goalkeepers are slightly better and more aware of the "sweaty" (read: Barcelona) goals that were scored on FIFA 12. Finesse shooting has been made less reliable, but is still there if the player doesn't power up as much as they would if they wanted to place it in the top corner, instead placing it under the keeper. Passing is also a little more manual, and the tackling has been made easier. Also included are mini-games (also available in the menu under 'Skill Games'), which you can earn medals for. These include free kick taking, penalty taking, chip shots, volleys, and so on. Scoring a set number of points for hitting/clearing targets will unlock the medals, unlocking achievements, XP and EASC Credits (remember, the bronze ones to buy things with!) to improve your playability. It's just a shame you can't buy a "turn all players into Dolphins" one once you've done it, because that would make my day.

              Negatively, there are serious issues with the game's coding. One of the major problems is the lack of a visible ball in certain games. Yes. The ball disappears and doesn't come back.

              EA claim that this is rare, however there are enough videos on the internet to tell you otherwise. And as of writing, I have not seen it patched, almost two months after the game was released.

              Off-the-ball-player intelligence also seems to have nose-dived. Once upon a time, just looking at the player would have him setting off to run, either taking the defender with him to give you space, or for them to find space while the defender comes out to tackle you, by which point you will have put the ball into the runner. Now, the players make the run, but will stop randomly - usually as you're about to play the ball - like they believe themselves to be offside. In my opinion, it is down to the player to play the perfect ball. The runner should just keep running until he KNOWS he's offside, at which point he can wait for play to catch up, or run back onside.

              The ability to control the runner was a feature added to Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 this year, and has opened a new dimension to how a manager should be able to control the team he's managing. FIFA will need something to combat this, as currently this surpasses FIFA's "Artificial Intelligence".

              -Online-
              Online is the key player for FIFA 13 this year. EASC, as explained, is all server-based, meaning that the EA Servers know how much you have, how much you will earn and what you can and cannot buy from the shop. Along with that, Pro Clubs makes its triumphant return, only this time in a season format, where you can claim promotion as champions, or be relegated from your division. There's also an occasional cup window that opens and closes during points of the real-life months, allowing you to compete in something different and try and fill your trophy cabinet.

              After much hassling from the FIFA community, EA have given in and implemented a filter to omit clubs that use Be A Pro Goalkeepers or use an 'Any' (control of all players, rather than one) from the search, making it a much more enjoyable experience. However, once again, EA presumably didn't test this feature, as it didn't work at launch. It didn't work weeks after launch, so I gave up on the game mode.

              It also continues to pack a simple 1v1 season, which gives you 3pts for a win and 1 for a draw against your opponent in a short season, extending the playability of the online 1v1 mode without it getting tedious.

              A note: all online features require an online pass. These cost 800 Microsoft Points (the equivalent of £8), so take this into account when considering buying a pre-owned copy. All BRAND NEW copies come with the pass inside.

              -Ultimate Team-
              Once again, EA Sports' biggest money-spinner is in. Create a club, or carry your club over from FIFA 12 (this should give you a bonus pack or two) and it's all about playing matches with your fantasy team and winning more coins to buy bigger, stronger, better and rarer players from packs or from the market.

              Of course, once again, EA allows you to pay cash, or earn coins steadily by completing tasks during matches. Winning by a big margin, avoiding the use of fouls and not being caught offside all contribute to your points tally, so keep it simple, but a word of warning - watch out for addictive behaviour. This is like collecting cards and/or stickers back in the day, and if buying this for your kids, make sure they watch all the time. It's a gamble, buying packs and hoping for a rare card, but they are rare for a reason.

              A major issue with this mode has been the disappearance of coins and players purchased with real money. EA have apparently looked into this issue, and patched it.

              -Game Modes-
              EAS FC, Ultimate Team, Online Seasons and the Skill Games, you can also play a career as a Player (Pro) or a Manager. This is slightly different, in that you can't be a Player-Manager now, unlike previous titles.

              Other Game Modes include Tournaments and Be A Pro Friendlies.

              -Overall-
              The game is excellent and a clear improvement on the last year in places, but once again falls behind in others. The major issues that EA really should have noticed during the testing period are unacceptable, to the point where the BBC's Watchdog programme actually briefly covered the game on their show. There are still flaws that must be sorted out. Hopefully, before the Christmas rush, EA will have sorted them (on previous experience, you'll probably be waiting until FIFA 14 for them to be fixed) and it will justify its current price of around the £30 mark.

              The service from EA lets this game down, as the patches are not forthcoming quick enough, nor are they frequent, however this has been the same for many FIFA games over the years, with the consumer just putting up with it.

              If these problems affect you if you purchase the game, be aware of your return rights. Usually, the game cannot be returned once the seal has been broken.

              UPDATE: Patches have been issued for the game, which have improved and fixed most issues listed above. Another will presumably come after the January transfer window has shut in the real world of football, updating players with new clubs and fixing other issues that may have been brought to attention.

              Star rating improved to reflect these patches. The amount of time it has taken EA to implement these was considerable, however.

              The best, by some way.

              I give in. I'm weak-willed and short of spirit. I'm a flaky, free-wheeling quitter. In my defence, I've hung on a while playing Pro Evolution Soccer while the rest of the world was having a whole heap of fun with the newer incarnations of FIFA. In fact, I'm probably the last one out of the Konami house, so bear with me while I get the lights ...

              These kinds of seismic divides crop up from time to time in gaming - and in many ways the rivalry between FIFA and Pro Evo mirrors those in the real footballing world they ape. Are you the red half or the blue half of Manchester? Barca or Real? Boca or River? Except lately it's become more like the North London derby circa 1999-2010; a world of pain for one side and the kind of raw, semi-inevitable drubbing that comes with being on the wrong side of an imbalanced fight. Pro Evo used to be great - far greater than FIFA, a game that had fallen from its heyday and was all style, no substance. It was a gaming Ladyboy; all gloss and glamour on the outside working hard to conceal some less appealling secrets.

              That was then, though - now things are different. FIFA's found the gameplay to go with the glitz, and suddenly Pro Evo's treading water. It took a long time to persude me to jump ship, even when people were singing the praises of the reformed franchise. I'd been burnt by FIFA too many times. Pro Evo 2012 was one disappointment too many for me, though - it sucked. In bitter, epic ways. So now it's FIFA for me - and I only wish I'd deserted sooner.

              As I'm late to the party, there isn't much I can say in terms of the differences between this version of FIFA and its predecessor - by all accounts this is a re-jigging of the winning formula rather than a wholesale reinvention. Instead, my observations compare the two footballing franchises, and explain why I'm sticking with EA for the foreseeable future.

              FIFA's big selling-point has always been its officialdom and licenses. Though Pro Evo made some inroads in this direction by acquiring the Champions League and Europa League licenses, there's no comparison when it comes to the depth of detail. Want to play as Fleetwood? Fancy storming the Spanish Second Division? Have a yearning to lead Gangwon FC to glory? FIFA's your game - the wealth of leagues, kits, stadia, competitions and players here is staggering, and puts Pro Evo's offerings to shame. Granted, Konami have the Copa Libertadores where FIFA doesn't, but this is likely to appease few gamers.

              However, FIFA's always been streets ahead in this respect - where it's lagged has been in gameplay. Years ago, players' movements were robotic and unconvincing, play unfolded awkwardly and control was erratic and frustrating. These concerns are now a thing of the past, and if anything, the series now plays like Pro Evo at its prime. Passing is fluid, players move, use the ball and interact with each other in realistic, believable ways. The game accomodates different styles of play pretty well, and you always feel in full control of your team. Pro Evo has fallen behind here, with last year's offering feeling somewhat sluggish and unresponsive for the first time, not helped by some truly awful camera issues.

              The camera's great here - so much so you forget it can even be an issue - and the controls are great. There's a range of tricks and touches at your fingertips, and the game manages to perfectly tread the line between pick-up-and-play intuitiveness and catering for the whims of the seasoned player.

              Presentation is another area in which FIFA has always excelled, and this combines with the gameplay here to create a truly immersive experience. Players and stadiums look fantastic - and crucially, this is as true at lower-league levels as it is in the stratosphere. It was hard to feel in Pro Evo that you were playing as a small team, as all the stadia were massive super-arenas. Here, there's more variety, with small traditional grounds sitting alongside modern identikit arenas and well-known real-life stadia. With 69 grounds available, there's more than double what Pro Evo can offer. The whole presentation of the game is super-slick, with all the menus looking great and remaining accessible - another aspect Pro Evo has traditionally struggled with.

              Game modes are similar to its rival - the career mode and be-a-player options are mirrored by Pro Evo, and both are fine. I can't say much about Ultimate Team yet, but it looks promising, and again threatens to outstrip what Konami have to offer. If there's one area that FIFA falls short in, it's in terms of customisation. Pro Evo has always made up for its licensing issues (to some degree) by offering a level of editing power that FIFA can't match. Even if this feature has lacked innovation recently, it still allows players far more control over their game than in FIFA. Granted, you can tweak your player's appearance with a myriad of options here, but there's no chance to edit kits or create clubs, as there is in Pro Evo. Maybe it's just the design-nerd in me, but this was always a great feature in Pro Evo, allowing you to customise the game to an unlimited degree, and greatly extending shelf-life. It's a shame - and an oddity - that FIFA lacks this level of depth. I guess they figure it isn't needed - yet while this is to some extent true, such is the existing detail within the game, it's a missed opportunity to add another weapon to the game's considerable arsenal.

              So ... I'm a traitor, but a happy one. Actually, Konami don't own my loyalty - they need to earn it with a game that constantly pushes the boundaries, responds to gamer demands and strives to improve in leaps and bounds with each incarnation. Pro Evo hasn't been that game in years, so for now I'm playing an enormously impressive FIFA that combines traditional graphics-and-licenses strength with cutting-edge gameplay. Your move, Konami.

                A recycled FIFA 12, however some promising features and some good points lost

                Alot has happened in the last 12 months in the football world. Manchester City are English Champions, Chelsea claim there first ever Champions League Trophy, Spain are European Champions again, but sadly not alot has changed on Fifa 13.

                Yes there are new features, but sadly some of the good points of the last game have been lost.
                The Be A Pro feature from FIFA 12 has now gone, where you create a player and build him up through the ranks of your favourite club. now if you want to feature in a game you still can but with a player rating of 99, as you can set everything to 99 skill level again like earlier editions of fifa.
                When you get into playing a match the OSD is a recycled Fifa 12 OSD.
                Commentary again is repetitive, for instance every Arsenal match I've played, I hear about the 1989 title decider, again.

                However there are some positives that have come out of the new game, better first touch from players in game. Some players keep the ball, less skilled players will lose the ball or struggle to keep it near them, which gives a more realistic experience.
                Also the introduction of Skill games in the Practice arena has made waiting for a match more interesting and also gives a better guide for controlling the game.
                In career mode there is the introduction of a International manager mode which runs alongside club manager, and depending on the manager rating depends on the contract offer from the international team.
                Fianll there is the introduction of a shop, you earn coins from the actions you do on the game which can be used to buy classic kits, footballs, celebrations etc. Alot like the shop in earlier FIFA's

                But overall nothing much has changed year on year, they have brought back some old features, kept what's worked, added some new promising changes. but i can't help seeing that it is a recycled FIFA 12.
