Forza Motorsport 2 (Xbox 360)
Advantages: Over 300 cars, great graphics and a lot of game modes!
Disadvantages: Not many people play online now and Forza 4 is out!
Forza Motorsport 2 is the second game from the growing franchise of the car racing game exclusively for the Xbox 360. The first Forza Motorsport game was released back in 2005 for the original Xbox and is compatible with the Xbox 360. Then in 2007 Forza Motorsport 2 was released and is fairly different to the first and in my opinion much better. Forza Motorsport is labelled the Xbox 360 version of Gran Turismo (PS3) even though they are actually two different games. Turn 10 Studios developed Forza Motorsport 2 and Microsoft Game Studios are the publishers for the game. There are many car racing games out there and most are different types of car racing games. There are street racing games, world championship racing games and there are a few games that feature rallying. Whilst there isn't an actual story to Forza Motorsport 2 it is still one of the better car racing games available at an incredible price.
=== GAMEPLAY ===
In Forza Motorsport 2 there are over 300+ fully licensed cars available. You don't start with all 300 however and almost every car has to be bought in the game with money. At the start of the game the cars you can buy are all mediocre cars but slightly better than your opponents so you can progress in the game quite easily. As you get further in the game better cars become available, faster cars become available and you will also unlock cars for completing races and events. There are lots of different race tracks overall in the game and most of them are actual racing tracks in real life so the game gives you that full on feel. Some of the tracks are mirrored as well which makes things a little more interesting. Mirrored is basically reversed.
There are numerous game modes available in Forza Motorsport 2 and this is one of the reasons it has become fairly successful. Career mode is the main game mode in the game for single player gamers and this game mode consists of the most gameplay features. At the start of this mode you pick you favourite region out of the select few and this basically then lets you pick a car to start with that you can afford. After picking your car you then choose your difficulty/assistance required. There are numerous settings Novice being the easiest and Expert being the hardest. Novice is far too easy though and it takes away enjoyment from the game because all you need to do is steer the car and accelerate. The computer does all the breaking and so on. On expert you do absolutely everything with no assistance what so ever but this is far more challenging and not recommended at first. intermediate is 50/50 and works well. From this you now can go and race in cups, check your vehicles, buy new vehicles and buy upgrades for your vehicles. There are 9 massive cups on the game and each cup has a certain amount of events and a set amount of races. For example the first cup is called Proving Grounds and is basically to get you up and running. There are 10 events on this cup with 30 different races. Each event needs to be won to progress further. Different events may require certain cars to be raced with. You can only do Proving Grounds at first but more open and become available but you need to spend your money wisely because certain cups or races will need certain cars. You can also add vinyl and decals to your cars!
Arcade mode is another fairly decent game mode. There are different race types in this mode such as time trials, practice or full on races. You can unlock new cars in this game mode and the new cars can be used in Career mode. Probably worth doing Arcade mode first. In multiplayer mode there are numerous races and events available. You can compete in exhibition races on the same console with friends or you can compete in friendly races with people over Xbox Live. You can also compete online by playing online tournaments or by racing in a career race. Each one you will receive bonuses if you win and in turn could lead to your driver level increasing. If your driver level increases then new cars become available and new tracks. Also new championships and events become available and you will also rise in the rankings overall. In multiplayer you can also buy cars from people on Xbox Live and you can also sell you unwanted cars. To play most of these modes you do need your Xbox 360 connected to Xbox Live with a gold membership.
When your actually racing the game comes fully to life and really impresses with the beautifully designed cars and tracks. There are a total of 8 cars in each race including yours. Racing against 7 opponents is probably a good amount because too many can become frustrating if you start badly and also it can become packed so 8 is about right. The racing runs smoothly and makes the game feel like your actually driving sometimes. There are a certain amount of laps that you have to do and its always best to finish first. As you get further in the game you are required to complete more laps in the bigger and more challenging tournaments. If you come into contact with other vehicles then you may get a penalty but this doesn't really matter because as long as you finish first everything is okay. The game becomes more hectic and more competitive as you progress. Online play may vary depending on connection. Overall its a smooth racing game and on of the best out there.
=== GRAPHICS ===
Forza Motorsport has some realistic graphics. The cars in the game are superbly designed and look like they do in real life. This is one of the major improvements from the first game and its definitely noticeable. The tracks are also detailed really well and look how they do in real life. The sense of realism the game has is brilliant and definitely another reason of the games success. I am also very impressed with the scenery in the game and the way the weather can change at almost any moment in the game. The sky, trees and even crowd give a really good feel about the game. The weather is fantastic because sometimes it could be all sunny and the next race could be absolutely thrashing it down. Plus the way the weather effects your races is phenomenal. Overall I was very pleased with the graphics to Forza Motorsport 2.
=== SOUND EFFECTS ===
Something I was in two minds about at first with the game was the sound effects but they actually grew on me as I got further into the game. At first it just seemed slightly unrealistic and the music to the game was very disappointing. As I got further the sound effects seemed to get a lot better and the music actually grew on me and there are actually a lotn of different types of music tracks available in the game. You can turn music off in most games but in my opinion its part of the game and there for a reason. There are certain sound effects to the game that are spot on where I cant fault them at all. Things such as the way different cars sound, the weather sound effects and many more. The game actually is quite impressive for a fairly older game for the Xbox 360 now.
=== DIFFICULTY & LONGEVITY ===
The games difficulty definitely varies in career mode because of the difficulty you pick at the start. I feel the game can be far too difficult for most gamers on a much harder setting because there are no assistance's on and they can come in handy at times. One of the assistance's is braking and another is a line sort of telling you when and where to slow down at corners. With these the game is fairly simple but without it can become increasingly difficult. Also the controls to the game are very simple. Online play difficulty may be harder but may be easier it depends on the skill level of your opponent. Arcade mode is much easier than career mode for single players.
The length of the game is actually really good. Most car games can be played numerous times for many reasons. Career mode is probably a good 30 hour game mode mainly because of endurance races that can take a long time. Arcade mode is around an 8 hour game mode and multiplayer modes can last a lifetime so overall the length of the game is really good and definitely a strong point. The fact you can start again and again after finishing the game is great because the outcome will always be different with the choices you make and the difficult you choose.
=== ACHIEVEMENTS ===
Forza Motorsport 2 features a total of 44 different achievements. Most of them are fairly simple to get as you will get most as you play through the game as normal. Some of the achievements will take time and require a lot of patience. There are a few secret achievements as well. One of the biggest disappointments is that there are some online achievements as well which is bad for people who don't play online because they wont be able to get them. Overall there is a mix of achievements available but there not the best bunch to get and can cause problems if you leave them for too long.

=== FINAL THOUGHT ===
Forza Motorsport has officially taken the world by storm by putting Gran Turismo behind the quality that is Forza. Gran turismo was all the rage a long time ago but with Forza now in pole position. Forza 4 is out now and looks set to leave other racing games for dead. Forza 2 however will still sit fairly strong because it was the first to be released for the Xbox 360. The game has a lot to offer even more so at 4 years old. There is still lots of fun to be had playing the game.
I would recommend the game to many people especially if your a fan of racing games at their best. I would also recommend the game if your a fan of driving because with the steering wheel and the correct camera angle this is a very real type of game. Its realism is fantastic. Forza Motorsport 2 is definitely a game I would recommend but Forza 4 is out so you may want an updated version that can also be played with Kinect.
The game has an age rating of 3+ which is perfect and suitable for most gamers. It could be seen a little difficult for the younger gamers but they would still enjoy it. The game manual is okay but its just a little plain but lists all relevant information. I bought the game a few years back now for about £5 which is great value for money. However now the game is much older and the 4th installment is almost here, the game is actually selling for only about £2 for a used copy on Amazon which includes postage and is definitely worth it. Any game is worth £2! Brand new copies are around £8-£10!
Its a fantastic car game. Better than the 1st Forza but slightly worse than the 3rd game. I would give Forza Motorsport a solid 8/10!
