Released in 2009 for Xbox 360, Wii, PS2 and PS3, Neversoft's "Guitar Hero: Metallica" is the second of a band-specific variation of the game, with Metallica following in Aerosmith's footsteps and is the first to use Expert+ difficulty, allowing the drummer to use two foot pedals. The game features 28 Metallica songs and 21 selected by the band themselves of other artists.
The game starts out with the user playing "For Whom the Bell Tolls" off of Metallica's 1984 album, "Ride the Lightning" followed by "The Unforgiven", taken from 1991's eponymous album, before moving on to other popular tracks by the band and others.
There is a good choice of Metallica songs on this game for the fans of Metallica's thrash days to the newer rock and metal orientated tracks. Classics such as "Seek & Destroy", "Whiplash" and "Fade to Black" appear with modern-day gems like "Cyanide", "All Nightmare Long" and "Frantic". I would have personally liked to see more of the early stuff on this game, "Jump in the Fire" and "No Remorse" being amongst those.
You can expect to see a good choice of guest bands on the game: Alice in Chains, Bob Seger, Corrosion of Conformity, Diamond Head, Foo Fighters, Judas Priest, Kyuss, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Machine Head, Mastodon, Mercyful Fate, Michael Schenker, Motörhead, Queen, Samhaim, Slayer, Social Distortion, Suicidal Tendencies, The Sword, System of a Down and Thin Lizzy. There is no room for Anthrax and, not surprisingly, Guitar Hero favourites, Megadeth.
There are a total of 50 achievements and 1000 points to earn throughout the game, many are easy for the average player, some are extremely difficult for a lot of Guitar Hero players out there. A score of 575,000 on "Creeping Death" as the guitarist is going to hurt. There are also a number of achievements that have to be done with 4 players in a band. All fine if you can find 4 players online or have friends that can play in your home but quite a lot of people will struggle to get these.
All in all, I like this game a lot and play it more than the other titles, but that's largely due to being a Metallica fan since the first album. It's a must for any fan of the band who want to be James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo or Lars Ulrich. And let's not forget former bass players Jason Newsted and the
legendary Cliff Burton.
The upside to this game is you are Metallica. The downside? It's not easy being Metallica, especially on hard or expert and the latter songs in the game's progress.
One of my favorite games for the Xbox 360, is Guitar Hero 3; Legends of Rock, and since the release of that one, there has been many other releases, including Guitar Hero Metallica. Also being a fan of Metallica, I was quite excited to get this one once it was released, as it combined two of my favorite things!
I waited a little while to buy it after release though, as I find that although I enjoy the Guitar Hero games, I do not think they are worth paying high prices for. I bought Guitar Hero Metallica as a stand alone game, as I already had the guitar controller from the previous games. You can also buy it with the guitar controller in a bundle pack if you do not already have one, or if you want to have an extra one for the multiplayer functions of the game.
This game is also compatible with the "band bundle" from Guitar Hero World Tour, which means that you are also able to play drums and use the microphone on this game. You can use just one of the controllers, or the whole band kit and have fun with up to four people playing at the same time. This is great for when I have friends over and we feel like having some fun for a couple of hours. It really is a fun, social way to play a game or two on the Xbox 360.
I initially thought that this game would just be great Metallica songs that I could play through, but alas I was some what wrong. Yes, there is a good amount of Metallica songs, but there is also a lot of other bands thrown in, some of which I do not know if anyone has heard of, and not all the songs they have added are exactly fun to listen to, or fun to play. There is a total of 49 songs on the game, and 28 of these are songs by Metallica, the other 21 are from other bands.
Some of the other bands that are featured on the game are: Motorhead, Thin Lizzy, Machine Head, Judas Priest, System Of A Down and Lynard Skynard. All the bands come from the same rock genre as Metallica, and I think that the creators have done well in making sure the music all fits together, and rock fans should enjoy the choice of tracks on this game.
This game has a few different play modes available, including free play and career mode. The free play enables you to just pick a song (or a few) and play them on a difficulty setting of your choice, easy, medium, hard or expert. Career mode means you start at the beginning of a set list, and work your way through it until you can start on the next set list. This is the main way I play, and I must say it is more enjoyable when you feel like you are working towards something whilst playing it.
When it comes to gameplay itself, the games are relativley easy to play. I found that the older versions of Guitar Hero are a lot harder to play, and even the brand new players could find this game quite easy to play. I completed this game quite quickly, and even when I played it on a harder level, I still completed it very quickly and I did not find it to be much of a challenge. I like games to produce some sort of challenge, and this disappointed me a little bit. My partner also found it a little bit easy to play.
Both me and my partner were a little disappointed to find that the tracks we expected to be on the game were not there, as they are some of our favorite Metallica tracks. There is some great songs on there, and I am glad they have been put on, but I do feel that some of them could have been substitued for something a little bit better.
Graphics wise, the game is brilliant. I can not fault how amazing the graphics look, the colours look stunning and the details of everything is really well done. The sound quality is also brilliant, and I think that the creators have done very well in making the details so precise and perfect, as being a musical based game, this is something that needed to be done correctly.
All in all, this is a good game, but I feel that maybe Guitar Hero went too far past the line of their legacy and pushed to hard to keep it going. I am glad I waited to buy the game at a cheaper price, as it is not something I would have been happy to pay more than £20 for if I am honest. It is now possible to buy this game for a bargain price of £12 on Amazon, and I think that is a very good price for it.
If you have played and enjoyed Guitar Hero before, you may well like Guitar Hero Metallica, but it nothing special and I still think that Legends of Rock is the better one out of the whole game series. If you have not played it before, I think you will enjoy this game also, but I recommend that you start out on Legends Of Rock or World Tour.
I give Guitar Hero Metallica a 4 out of 5, and I recommend it.

Guitar hero Metallica really does hinge on one thing; how much you like Metallica. There are a few songs by other artists but this is primarilarly a collection of the bands greatest hits. Myself being a huge Metallica fan, I can tell you they picked the right songs. The selection of tracks ranges from kill 'em all up to death magnetic. All the tracks are available in quick-play from the start which is a convenient touch.
The game is pretty much identical with regards to game-play as Guitar Hero World Tour. You can play as either guitar, bass, vocals or drums. There is a new difficulty mode for the drums that lets you use two pedals to simulate double bass. This can up the difficulty of the drums and is a nice edition especially for songs such as 'one'.On the higher difficulty this game is seriously tough. There is no option to separate rhythm and lead guitar which is a bit of a shame but doesn't detract from the fun.
The campaign is the weakest aspect of the game. You play the majority of the story as a rising band, not Metallica itself. In my opinion, it would have been better if the developers had taken the same approach as the Beatles Rock Band and made it more biographical. Despite this, the campaign unlocks some good bonus videos such as 'orion' live at Donnington.
Ultimately, the title is good fan service even if it does play it safe with the campaign. There is nothing more satisfying that bringing four people together to thrash away to Metallica.
I didn't much like Metallica before. But that's now changed.
This was the first GH game I bought, along with the guitar. And I soon got slightly addicted to it. I hadn't played GH a lot before either, but there's a very nifty but a little longwinded tutorial about playing the game. If you think you can manage without it, I'd say not to use it and go straight into beginner or easy mode. Beginner is quite simply, being able to strum in time to the songs without worrying about notes. THis may seem really simplistic, but it is actually harder than it looks, but it does encourage you to learn how to strum correctly.
Easy mode is a bit harder, and you use three of the coloured buttons (green/red/yellow) to match the notes of the songs you're playing. This is, basically, the basic notes of the songs, and they get faster and harder as you go through the game, until eventually completing it.
Then, it's just a matter of working through the other difficulties. You might get bored before though, as I've started to, mainly through seeing no reward through it.
This can be played as single player or as part of a band, either online or offline. The guitar can be used as a guitar, or as a bass, which doubles what you can do with one guitar. I know it is possible to download more tracks from XBox Live and use them in the song.
Guitar hero has gone from strength to strength since the release of the the first one on the PlayStation2 becoming evermore popular. This game is basicly guitar hero wold tour just different songs with a more metal influence. The career follows Metallica and you get to play through there hits, it features 28 Metallica songs and 21 songs by artists that influenced their career. The game is a bit shorter than the main guitar hero games featuring only 49 songs but as most Metallica fans will know the songs quite long so your hand will get sore fast with the furious fretting in some of the songs. Alot of the achievements for this game need you to have 4 people playing together so you need 2 guitars, drums and a Mic. But most people who buy this game will be 2 types of people either hardened guitar hero fans willing to shell out for the extra songs to play or the metal heads who have been waiting for the true guitar hero game (im a both i love guitar hero and metal)
This game is one of the hardest guitar hero games to date (not counting through the fire and flames) and in my opinion not the best for everyone as its mainly metal songs.
well this installment in the guitar hero franchise definately picked up the pieces of guitar hero world tour. Guitar hero metallica was a highly anticipated game during the creation due to its large fanbase and variety of songstyles the band metallica have conjoured up during thir very succesful ccareers. when the game was released it definately lived up to its hype due to the setlst being so broad. this is because it contained not only metallicas most famous song like enter sandman, but also contained some not so popular songs like the shortest straw and frantic. Also the support acts throughout the setlist were specifically picked by metallica themselves and made all of them relevant to the career of the band. Altogether the gameplay is very entertaining on each instrument on every song due to the complexity or even simplicity of every instrument throughout the band. This is because each song was picked specifically to make sure the player would have a challenge or an entertaining game on each instrument no matter what song. Also the bonus features are satisfying as you unlock special videos of metallica recording the motion capture for the game or exclusive videos of the band performing songs live. Altogether this game is a very good play whether you are using it for band play or just solo. i would definately reccomend it. 5/5
Guitar Hero Metallica Xbox 360
I brought this game as I had been a fan of Metallica in my teenage years and felt like revisiting my youth! The game is fundamentally the same as any other Guitar Hero game to play and is compatible with the guitars, drums and microphone from World Tour. Some of the songs are also compatible with a 2nd drum pedal so you can really get the Lars experience.
You can again play on your own or with friends and play as a group together doing various gigs or play against each other head to head.
Most of the well known Metallica tracks are on here, including classics like Enter Sandman and One. In my opinion there is one or two songs missing though, such as Until It Sleeps. There are also some tracks by other rock bands such as Ace of Spades, but to be honest with this game it's the Metallica tracks you would buy it for.
When you play a Metallica song in career mode you automatically play as the band member whose instrument you are using. The graphics are slightly better than Guitar Hero World Tour in my opinion, although this would never be a reason for playing the game. But the band members are instantly recognizable as themselves.
Some of the songs are incredibly hard even on the easier levels, which may put some people off, but for me was all part of the challenge. Songs such as One have a very very tricky guitar solo, that the 1st time you see them just look like a random blur of notes and this may be a little off putting to some, as getting a 100% score is pretty unlikely unless your very good.
Again you can design your own rockstar, as in World Tour, but you can only be them in head to head games or if you are not performing a Metallica song.
I brought the game with the guitar included, not sure if this is actually worth the money. It is a Metallica guitar, but really all this means is that it is a standard wireless guitar with a removable Metallica faceplate. Personally given the choice again I'd just buy the game and a separate guitar, as this would be cheaper.
Overall for any Metallica fans, this is a fantastic game, as its as close as your ever come to being Metallica. For anyone who doesn't really know Metallica or like them, this is most definitely not the best game for you.
I didn't actually buy this game myself but my sister did and I have now played it many times!! I was really excited to play this when my sister said she had bought this, as I am a real fan of Metallica.
Obviously this is very much like the other Guitar Hero's except most of the songs are by Metallica and the band actually looks like them, very cool!
The game allows you to play bass, guitar or drums (and also sing) along to 28 of Metallica's greatest hits including Master of Puppets, Nothings Else Matters, Fuel, Enter Sandman, One, Fade to Black, The Unforgiven etc etc.
The game also allows you to play 21 other songs from various other bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foo Fighters, System of a Down, Motorhead, Queen and Machine head etc.
I've not got much in the way of guitar playing skills, never played a guitar in my life (except the Guitar Hero guitar), but I did find this extremely fun, though it did take some getting used to but thats just me!
Would definitely recommend if you enjoyed the other games or even if you enjoy a bit of rock/metal.
The latest entry in the Guitar Hero series, 'Metallica' is a substantial effort to replicate the metal legend's immeasurable legacy in video game form. As the second game to revolve around a specific band's output, this game outpaces last year's Aerosmith extravaganza to become something very special indeed.
In a game of this nature, it seems only right to address the music first. All I can say is Metallica fans will not be disappointed, as many of the band's best tracks are to be found here, with more on the way with reams of promised downloadable content. Not only are the tunes great, but the developers have clearly sought out the tracks that actually work with the guitar hero setup, and as such the game comes across as a labour of love more than any previous game in the series.
As one can expect from Metallica, the game sees a ramping up in the difficulty level, making it the hardest in the series since the full band setup was implemented. Speaking of which, the game is as you would expect again tremendous fun to play with a group of friends. New additions include the new 'Expert +' setting for the drums that allows the use of an extra foot pedal for extra fast parts, giving an extra level of depth and difficulty to the game.
Overall, the game is a resounding success, and a heartening reminder of how to giveenough time and dedication to a game to lift it above any accusations of Activision cashing in on the Guitar Hero brand. Excellent.
Guitar hero Metallica is The must have game for all rock and music fans!
It comes with over 20 amazing tracks my the band Metallica which are great to play along to.
This game in my opinion is not sutible for children under the age of 12 as some songs have minor swear words in them.
This is a great game to play by your self or allong with friends, themes from their music and real world locales.
This game realy gets you moveing by singing alone and jumping around the room while playing the game, it makes you realy feel like your in the rock band.
I highly recomend this game and at the price £37.96 from amazon uk, you cant go wrong. it makes a great gift for your self or a friend or relitive.
i play this game every day its highly addictive.
-Sorry for any spelling mistakes i have made
Always wanted a guitar hero game that just had all the good songs on it? Well here it is.
This game was packed full of great tunes from mettalica. Their old and new songs were all packed into this new game. This gave it good variation and i feel this is important in a game like this.
The graphics have also improved on this newer edition along with the sound quality and i fedel this has made the game much more enjoyable to play.
The new songs make the game much more interesting and fun seeing as there was always songs that you never wanted to play on that dreaded campaign mode!
All the songs are ready to rock your socks off! The game appears more challenging than others in the guitar hero range however, once you get used to play in the metallica tempo and rhythm it all becomes much easier than swapping between many different bands and having to alter the way you are rocking your guitar.
Overall this game seemed much better than the other guitar hero games and i believe has taken off well since it's release. If you are looking for a game that takes a while to complete but never gets boring then look no further!
another epic guitar hero game. the graphics of the band are amazing and almost life like. the crowd isnt the best but who really cares because the sound is awesome. every song is great and it isnt just all metallica songs. this is a definate must buy for any guitar hero fans. play some amazing solos such as fade to black, hit the lights and battery and play many more songs from artists such as queen, judas priest and slayer. this really is one of the best Guitar hero games so far. the career is different from the rest all you have to do is accumalate stars to unlock the next venue. this means that you dont have to complete every song to complete the career. i dont the career on expert in an hour or so but my playtime must have been about 5 hours before i handed it back to my friend! it is just so much fun. customizing you character and his instruments is also a lot better with a lot more to choose from. if youve always wanted to solo like kirk hammett but have never been bothered to learn guitar then this game is defintely for you!
Metallica is an American heavy-metal band formed in 1981.
Guitar Hero is a music video game that first hit the shelves in 2005, and since then, around 21 games and expansion packs have been released.
Basically, it is simulation game where you hold a guitar shaped controller, and strum along with one hand, whilst you press coloured buttons on the neck to match up with those on the screen. There is no guitar skill needed, and they are a brilliant series of games which are great to play alone, but so much better to play with friends on the multiplayer mode, with drums and vocals.
To be honest with you, I am no Metallica fan, so there is very little I can say about 'Guitar Hero : Metallica'. It is just like any other Guitar Hero game. If you enjoyed the previous Guitar Hero games or are a big metal fan, then this game is for you, but you would only be buying it for the 28 master recordings spanning Metallica's career and 21 songs selected by members of Metallica, Metallica fact pop-ups and the behind-the-scnes making-of videos. There is no downloadable content associated with this game, and some players have called certain aspects of the game cartoonish.
I have been a huge Metallica fan for years and am even seeing them this summer live at knebworth festival. When I saw an advert for this xbox game it was an immediate decision to buy this.
I was very glad I did and have to admit many hours of my life have already been spent on this game. Not being the best guitar player in real life, I thoroughly enjoy guitar hero thrashing out some of my favourite tunes to play along with and the sound effect is amazing and much better than my attempt of playing Nothing Else Matters on normal electric guitar.
This game is addictive but great fun, especially with friends so you can show off your skills. This game can lead you into a false sense of sercurity at first with simple tunes to follow, but then the epic solos come into play and you have your work cut out for you.
Definitely a game for the Metallica fans out there and brilliant fun and also a challenge for guitarists out there not yet at the stage to perform such music on actual guitar (such people as myself).
Its here, possibly the best music game has been brought to our attention on the Xbox 360...
I would only recommend this if you have an actual guitar controller though as it makes you feel more involved in the game.
The game starts off nice and easy but soon gets into some killer tracks Ace Of Spades from Motorhead, which is an amazingly awesome guitar tune but it poses a big challenege when playing on medium for myself as there is so much to do in a short time and my fingers are too big and clumsy to do it, but i never gave up and kept playing and completed the game and now im looking to get the rock band kit to play it as i think the drums would be a lot better.
The metallica songs range from the oldest to the newest and as i am a really big fan i believe this game poses no downsides.
Enter the world of Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo and experience the intensity and skill of one of the greatest bands of all time. Shred on guitar, rip on drums and wail on the mic to a set list featuring over 45 explosive hits from MetallicaÆs illustrious career and a wide variety of other legendary artists personally selected by the band, such as Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters and Queen. Fans will be able to rock as Metallica while performing in venues reminiscent of the bandÆs epic album covers, themes from their music and real world locales.
