      Very helpful

Good arcade sim, but feel its a stop-gap before the full release.

I'm a massive IL2 fan, so was immediately interested in this newest release of one of the best, if not THE best flight sim so far. Typically, I always sim on the PC, however, I just couldnt wait till October 2010 for the new IL2 to be released on PC, so went for a punt on this release.

The first thing to say about the gameplay on this version is that you need to appreciate your playing it on a console, and as such the controls are obviously going to be limited to what you have available. The precise throttle control isnt there (it is still there, but much more basic!), the tricky take offs and landings are easier, but the battles do keep much of the main elements that makes you love the IL2 range.

Gameplay-wise, the controls and action was a little too arcade style for me to go nuts about. You have a handy zoom facility which means you can see close up the plane you're attacking and what bits have been shot out of it, but the turns and climbs are no longer technical, the strategy for going in for the kill is somewhat limited.... its more like, theres the enemy, throttle up, now shoot!!

Graphically, this game is fantastic. IL2 has been around a long time, but the new textures that have been used along with the excellent lighting effects make this game what it is. Sure, the gameplay isnt sim-like, but its still a hell of a lot of fun tearing through the skies shooting down the enemy.

The in-game audio effects are excellent too. They certainly add to the much needed realism feeling when in-game. Authentic voiced co-pilot / wingman sounds are typically well done and add that little edge of polish to the game.

To summarise, its a good game if you want to catch up on a recent sim, although I'd recommend going for Wings of Prey on the PC in the meantime instead of this title. Plus side of this release is that I'm very excited to see what comes out in October with the PC release of this title.
