Advantages: Great zombie action, lots of blood, gore and volence!

Disadvantages: No saves during campaigns, can be a bit mental and in your face at first!

Left 4 Dead 2 is a first-person shooter in the style of the Medal Of Honour series but instead of fighting enemy troops you are fighting infected hoardes who have fallen prey to a 28-Days-Later inspired virus. Little is known about how the virus spread but from graffiti messages scrawled on walls, it appears as though there has been a goverment conspiracy to keep things quiet and blame everything, in echoes of the Stephen King novel The Stand, on a new strain of flu! Unfortunately it has become imposible to keep things quiet any longer and now people are abandoning the cities in their masses!

You play one of four survivors left behind and trying to reach rescue. There are five campaigns to play starting in a Hotel, moving on to locatons in a Shopping Mall and Carnival and cultimating at an Airfield. Each campaign can be played in any order though there is a linear path to follow that advances the storyline and each campaign is split into four or five seperate levels. Unfortunately there are no save points so if you do want to gain Achievments such as surviving each campaign, it does mean that you need to play each campaign from start to finish in one go! This is not too bad once you have ran through each level in a campaign but, to start with, can make for a very long gaming session as you try to decipher whrere you have to go and what you have to do to reach each Safe Room that marks the end of a level!

Graphically, this game is stunning but it is limited to how much longevity it has as a single-player game. Where this excells is in multi-player on XBOX LIVE where there a wide variety of different game styles to choose from which include playing as The Infected!

Another thing where this excells is that you have a wide variety of weapons to choose from including melee weapons such as Chainsaws and guns such as the M-16 or Magnum and choosing which gun to take can mean the difference between life or undeath!

On first game-play, this can seem a bit manic to play with zombies flying at you in all directions making for a bloody, violent free-for-all at times! It can be very chaotic and takes a bit of getting used to especially with Special Infected making up the numbers, some of which can be quite hard to kill! In paticular is The Witch!! If you see her, your best bet is to sneak round as quiet as possible because once she is on your case, you frakking know about it!

Overall, this is a great zombie game that has lots to reccommend it! It is just a shame you cannot save during campaigns and that the main emphasis here has been put on multi-player gaming over single-player. Still, that makes a change I suppose as there are as equally if not more games that focus on the single-player experience! Still, I wouldn't be paying full price for this if you can at all help it!

Summary: The Zombies are coming and they are all that stand between you and rescue...good luck!
