Madden NFL is one of the best series of sporting games out there and each year an updated version is released on the gaming population, I would like to say every year is an improvement but that has not always been the case.
There are some nice additions to the 07 version however there are also a couple of annoying things that stop the game being a true great. It is still worth getting hold of for real fans however if you have an earlier version and are not that fussed about having the latest player and team profiles then you might want to wait until the 08 version is released,
The objective of the game is to lead your team through the regular season and culminating in a visit to the Superbowl. You will get to make trades and also manage your team between games but the real challenge comes in leading your team on the pitch. The big plays are still the most fun and for these the passing plays are the best although there is still something very satisfying about breaking a big running play all the way to the end zone.
For new players the game does take quite a bit of getting used to as the buttons all double up depending upon the type of play or whether you are on offence or defence. In this version of the game you can also control the blocking on a running play which is a nice touch. The throwing mechanic is as great as ever making use of the field of vision of the quarter back depending on their ability.
Visually the game is excellent and the players look and move very realistically. There is a lot of game play to be had with this game as it is packed with features and the replay option with multiple camera angles is very addictive to help you analyse where plays went wrong or what worked for you. The only real criticism I have is the fact that on normal setting the game is rather easy and the AI of the defenders is comical at times.
A good game to play and you can get it from Amazon for £24.98 new which is a reasonable price.
