Metro 2033 (Xbox 360)
Advantages: Good graphics/ story teller
Disadvantages: Could of been so much more sadly
I brought this game a little while ago now with great expectations but sadly it didn't deliver what I was hoping for. Metro 2033 is based novel of a post apocalyptic moscow where underground first person shooting is the way you survive and travel around due to not being able to travel above ground for to long due to the monsters that roam and the need to protect your gas mask from breaking which insures near instant death.
The player roams around using the underground tunnels to travel from station to station essentially progressing through the story of you and others you meet survival in the dreary life you all dwell in now.
There is a variety of weapons in the game from real to made up that you and your human enemies will use whereas swarms of mutated creatures attack you with direct hits and no special weapons.
There is also the moral aspect to the game as do you save the people from the nazi's or watch them get executed while you hide away. There is no real map to look at just you trying to find your way about a intricate level avoiding those that lurk to harm you in the darkness while hoping they don't see your flash light before you are alerted to them being there to give you the chance to sneak by.
There is no health meter and the screen and heart rate are how you judge your health which restores over time so hiding away to recover for a few seconds is the preferred way although there are a few medikits laying around in the tunnels to find and use.
The ammunition in the game acts as a currency for you to use as the pre war ammo is the most valuable and can be traded at outposts for a weaker and cheaper type that does less damage but stops you essentially shooting money each time as it can be scarce.
The game had the chance to be epic as parts of the graphics in the underground look the part as if you were there and if it was a bit more free roam like in the fallout genre this could of been a blockbuster rather than just trying to progress through one area at a time although its not a total downfall of a game telling a story I just find free roam aspects really make games especially of this type better as the urgency to roam and scavenge is what normally you would expect to be the main point of your survival
Even though the game failed to deliver due to the age of this game nowadays it can be picked up for around £10 which seeing as it still lasts a few hours is always worth the punt in my opinion but sadly you will see how close this game could of become a marvel than a good but not great game.
Summary: Worth it for the £10 price tag
