Advantages: Fast & Frenetic Pace. Lots of goals to be had. Good variety of game modes.

Disadvantages: Nearly 3 years old. A bit un-realistic. Microsoft charge for online play BOOO!

I am a huge Ice Hockey fan. I have been playing Video Game Hockey for years & every console I've owned I had a hockey game for, so I got one for my X-Box 360.

All the NHL teams are present & correct with (at the time) up to date rosters & playing lines. The controls are easy to pick up & start playing. There are also lots of game modes like quick game & franchise. Playing a full 82 game season will take a year!

NHL 2k9 plays a very fast paced frenetic game of Ice Hockey. You can fly from end to end. This means that it is lots of fun, but also a little un realistic as trying to take the offensive zone is pretty pointless as you can get just as good a result by putting the puck on net as soon as you get into the zone.

Defending is quite fun, you can lay lots of big hits on the opposition. However because shooting & scoring is so easy, it's very difficult to shutout the opposition.

Multi-player on one console is possible with up to 4 players. This is good fun too. Especially when all players know what they are doing. I can't comment on online play because Microsoft are the only company to charge for this & not to make their consoles wireless. Really poor service & I'm not paying to play online with them when Nintendo & Sony don't charge me.

I would recommend the game. Because it is soon to be three seasons old, you'll be able to pick up a copy very cheaply. If you're a hockey fan you can have lots of fun with this & if you're a sports fan you'll enjoy it too. Maybe avoid it if you don't like sports games.

Summary: A good game of hockey. Not bad for sports fans & well worth a look for hockey fans.
