I wasn't expecting a lot from this film, at all. I'd seen it in Game & GameStation (and a few other local shops that sell used games) for an extremely low £4/5. I though i'd rent the game on LOVEFiLM considering I was using a 3 month trial, and didn't really have anything else I wanted to add to my list at the time (you have to have a minimum of 10 titles in your list at once). When I recieved Prey, i was surprised! It reminded me of the original Doom on Playstation 1 back in the day. The story mode is quite weird, you have to shoot things on the ceiling to change the direction of gravity, flipping the screen and making you fall on the ceiling or one of the walls so you can squeeze through a hole, then often following through a few corridors until you find a port, in which you see yourself and end up in a completely different room, or in some cases, back where you started. You have to be into this sort of thing to enjoy it. The shooting was the thing that reminded me of Doom on the PS1, but I loved it! It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood too as a lot of shooting games were like that back then.
The storyline is based on a guy called Tommy, who doesn't believe in his 'tribe', and the powers that he can achieve. He gets, well, taken, a long with everyone else in the bar (including his girlfriend, Jen), to a strange ship. You then play through the game, which involves destroying these people that took Tommy (you do learn some of his familys 'powers'), and try to save his girlfriend. There's one more thing, you can't die, but i'll let you find out why. The only thing that was a problem with this game was the live games, you can't find a single person to play with online, which does make it hard to unlock all the achievements, unless you have a friend to play with!
If you see it cheap, pick it up!
Summary: for such a low price, you should pick this up straight away, really good game!
