      Advantages

      Disadvantages

easy to play and to learn

Quite possibly the best game on xbox or any console. Pro Evolution 2008 is the best in the Pro Evolution series. PRICE. Generally cheaper than other football games including fifa, Pro Evolution is value for money and your money will go far with this excellent game. GRAPHICS. The graphics in Pro Evolution 2008 just like other years have excelled the previous years in game graphics. There is a slight down fall, not all the players look like they do in real life, only the big name players do, which isnt that big of a deal. GAME PLAY. The game play is what makes Pro Evolution the greatest football game on the market and blows games like fifa out of the water, Its realistic, The players real life characteristics show in the game play i.e movement, runs and finishing. CONTROLS. The controlls are yet again brilliant, very responsive and east to use, nothing fancy just simple buttons.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

easy to get into and not a bad game

One of my favourite football game series after the Fifa games, Pro Evolution Soccer is usually cheaper to buy than the Fifa games. The game itself has all the major teams and players and you have the option to create your own teams and players if you want to. The controls are pretty easy to learn and fairly easy to use although it sometimes feels that the computer is playing and you are only a spectator to the game. The graphics are pretty good and the level of detail is good. As you would expect from a football game all the main options are there like season, quick game, practice mode, the game itself is fun to play but fairly easy to master for a football game and gets pretty boring fairly quick, not a major improvement on the previous game and not as good as the Fifa game series, but if you can pick it up cheap it is worth giving it a go and should provide a few hours of fun.

Great game with a couple of minor imperfections

Now available at bargain prices - Pro Evo 2008 is a great football game, in my opinion it's still better than the FIFA series. 2008's game features good graphics (although these have been improved upon for 2009), a decent amount of licenced teams (although there's still only 2 fully-licenced English teams) and great gameplay all round. However, it is let-down by a couple of disappointing errors in the Xbox version (I've not played on the PS3 version, so I can't say if the same applies). Firstly and probably most annoying is that you can't choose your team's kit before the game - the computer automatically chooses which team wears the home/away kits. Most of the time this isn't a problem, but there are the odd few occasions when it's difficult to tell which players are on your side and which are on the opposition's. My second bugbear is that the game doesn't pause when you press Xbox Guide button - it brings up the Xbox menu, but the game still continues in the background... a poor oversight on Konami's behalf. The above imperfections don't spoil what is an excellent game though! Perhaps not 5 stars, but definitely 4 and a half!

      okay game

For me pro evoloution soccer 2008 was excellent in certain aspects of the game but shocking in others. Pro 2008 offers excellent offline modes. Including Exhibition, league and Master League modes. The gameplay in these modes are both entertaining and fun. Also with the different skill categories like amatuer and intermediate you can progress nicely with the game. The game allows good control of the ball and smooth gameplay but only offline. If you have Xbox live its a different story. At first Online looks to be very good because of the fact it offers both ranked and friendly matches but its when you start playing matches your opinion changes of pro 2008. Gameplay is very stuttery and confusing which gets very annoying very quickly. Sometimes game stops altogether and says signal lost and says that I have a poor signal but when I play a different game my signal is excellent. The game overall is okay, I recommend this game if you don't have xbox live if you do I wouldn't buy this game.

A fantastic football game, worth every penny !

This game was released into the gaming market with only one real main rival, Fifa 2008. I think that Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 dominates the football game area and wins hands down in any toss up between the two. With incredible graphics and fantastic controls, this game offers so much entertainment and hours of endless fun! The superb league mode allows you to participate in full, in many of Europe's leading premier divisions, including leagues from England, Spain, France, Italy and Holland. Each league has the correct teams in essence, although many are unlicensed. This devastating factor means that only some of the team names, and some of the player names will be correct. This is due to the rights owned by the company but although it can be annoying at first, you soon will realise that in actual fact, it does not really alter game play at all, and your entertainment will still commence. There is also a master league ability which allows you to control more of the team and select players who you want from other teams, managing transfers and leading each player through experience, upgrading their overall ability. Basically, just like any other manager mode, but I really like this one, especially as there is an option which basically allows you to start from scratch, ensuring hours of fun as you try to perfect and hone your skills in becoming the best in the league! There are fifteen magnificent stadiums to host the matches, each filled with realistic crowd and narrated professionally by Jon Champion and Mark Lawrensen to give the better experience to game play. The same licensing issue mentioned previously does however mean that the stadia could be unconventionally named. I say could, the truth is they are. Again, this is not so much of an issue to hinder game play. One of the best features of this game for the Xbox 360 is the gamerscore available. It is really exciting, and can get rather competitive to compete against friends to see who can get the highest score amongst everyone. To basically enlighten confused minds, gamerscore is a certain number of points allocated to the user when a certain task has been completed. These can then be used for bragging rights in order to decide who is the most skilled friend. An example would be you get some for winning 100 matches, or defeating every team in a league. This is a very fun game, and probably one of the most used games I own for this console. I strongly recommend this to try if you are a fan of football, or even just sport. Especially after the release of the newer version, this will be cheaper in price and even more worth it's value.

        Disadvantages

        classic footie game

so have been converted to PES by the last title(pes 6) its only fair i expected big things from this title, and in ways,it did deliver. As per usual the menus are really crisp and clean and everythings really easy to navigate through, even in master mode(league mode). The music just like previous versions is really catchy and youl find yourself singing the tunes for weeks to come GAMEPLAY Once again i far prefer this to the fifa titles and this latest release has far surpast the last. The graphics for a start are far sharper and much more detailed and the players look as realistic as watching them on the tv, they really are that good, especially in replays!! One nice touch to the realism is the inbuilt skills some of the players have, for example ronaldo. If u watch the real ronaldo week in week out he does stepovers and such at random and at will and in this new PES he does just that,no button bashing or complex button pushing, you run at speed and he'll do it.Its little touches like this that really add up to the realism effect.Things like slide tackles have been far improved, they look much better and the timing is always spot on,in previous versions the ball would move before the tackle or other such hick ups. The major positive for this game is the enabled use of the xbox camera. Taking a picture of your mates and putting it onto footballers is cool enough, but to then see replays of digital people that look exactly like you, scoring a goal,is a whole new cool. This game has everything and its so true to life its like watching the game on the tv on a weekend. The difficulty level is its usual high self which is great, make for a much more involving game, more thought provoking and more entertaining.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Good but dont expect much different

Pro Evo 08 is a great game do not get me wrong however it feels very similar to a game i played prior to it and you can get what that was, pro evo 07. Overall there wasnt a big enough change between the two games which made this game feel a bit of a let down. Overall what they did was sharpen the graphics (still in no comparison with Fifa) and some of the features in pro evo 07 which were there but not used due to it being very awkward they have made simpler making it seem as if new things were added. Another bad thing is the online is very laggy and has a lot of problems. Nevertheless if you like pro evo 07 you will like 08, its a great game, great fun and it hasnt got bad enough for me to move to the darkside and turn to Fifa as Pro Evo is still the better game.

good fast paced football - great for any football fan!

Each year Konami release a new version of the famous football game, which was released at the end of october 2007. And once again it has been pu to the test against its arch rival - Fifa 08. I have once again remained a strong follower of the pro evo series and bought this game as soon as it was released despite many people trying to persuade me to go to the 'other side' and buy Fifa. Was this the year that fifa took the lead? I have to say that i am confident i made the right decision and have seen several improvements from last year's game and have enjoyed this game loads, it was certainly worth buying. This game has had many improvements from its predeccesor and has certainly been upgraded quite a lot. Firstly the grpahics have greatly improved with facial features getting more and more realistic, aswell as the whole player along with the shirt having improvements, for example with the shirt creasing being visible - when i play it at home the rest of my family sometimes think i am watching a game on tv, but i am actually playing this awesome game! Again Konami have improved the AI making great advances and upgrades in off-ball players' intellingence and vision. PLayers are often making great runs for you to play the ball in perfectly for them. You can also adjust setting for the set pieces and can change it so that taller players will come up for corners (as they do in real matches). There is little you can't do in this game that can be done in real life - for example youi can now even dive if you so wish. THere have also been several more skill techniques added to the collection so you can now do fakes, 'round the world' and a collection of other tricks. These are quite easy to get to grips with as they are all simply described in the manual and in options when you pause the game. So now you can really do what Ronaldo does - destroy your opponents! There are 15 different stadiums to choose from in the xbox 360 version which are all of course very similar to the real counter parts. The actual menu has been revamped and changed a bit from the previous version and of course is very simple to use and takes only a few games to get use to. Each player has separate ratings for a whole variety of skills from speed to defence to shooting. You can also adjust players attributes and even create your own players with endless things to adjust in their appearance from their boots and bracelets to their nose level or how fat they are. Another feature which i find great is how realistically the players actually are. For example Ronaldo plays just like he does in real life as he will constanly do little flicks when he gets the ball, and these are done automatically - how cool is that! There are as usual, on pro evo, some great songs from a variety of different bands. I would also like to mention that the commentary in this version is a great improvement from last year and they actually say more relevant things. There are still a variety of modes to choose from including the well loved master league mode where you can start as a team of your choice and play through games as well as being the manager and making team changes and transfers. There are others modes such as exhibition where you can just set up a quick game and play straight away. Or you can play through a variety of different leagues or cups and prove you are a footballing hero! There is also online where you can play against other players from across the world. This is of course great fun and a new feature is that you can chat with the other player with a selection of phrases to say such as "GOAL!" or "that was unlucky" when the other player gets close. Offline mutliplayer is also really fun and great with friends. The general gameplay is very fast paced with it changing from one end to the other in just a few moments. It takes a while to get use to the speed, but once you've got the hang of it, this game is absolutely awesome with you being able to score some great goals. I have played Fifa a few times and find it too slow and unexciting, whereas once again pro evo wins the hearts of all the football fans with the ability to just set up a quick game and have great fun thrashing some team or another. The player's are also muc more intelligent in pro evo than they use to be and their shot will depend on which foot they are suing and how they are standing or whether they are on the move. There are of course a few donwfalls with this new Pro Evo game. Firstly it still lacks all the licences which Fifa owns. This means a lot of the temas do not have proper names and certain players have fake names, for example Manchester United are called Man Red, but the gameplay is still the same. Some people have also suffered a lot of lag while playing online, but i have not had any of these problems as of yet. Yet on the whole i would certainly say this is a better game than Fifa and would advise anyone who is looking fo a good football game to buy this - if you're a Fifa fan - go for a change try the other side. price: around £15 (amazon.co.uk) Thanks for reading!

          Disadvantages

A great football game and one all football fans should have.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is the latest game in this very successful series from Konami. Some people prefer Fifa, but for the more realistic football game PES, wins hands down. (I like both games). The game features 1-4 multiplayer action, great if you get all your mates round, online multiplayer 2 players action on Xbox live. The action is realistic, featuring more facial detail and expressions of the players, football kits that move like the real thing. You attack and defend with a greater athleticism more in-tune to real football. Another key feature is the ability to upload a picture of your face and put yourself into the game, which is a novel idea and is one worth trying. You can also edits the players and kits, giving you complete control of the action. The game play is classic PES which is the most realistic football game ever made, a must have for all the football fans out there!

          Excellent

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is a step up in the world of gaming. undoubtebly the best football game to come out this decade it mixes a wide variety of excellent gameplay. being rated at a 3 + it is accesible to all. konami have again outdone themselves by adding a new shirt pulling and diving aspect to the beautiful game. This has taken football and gaming in general to the next level with amazingly realistic graphics on HD tv's this game is a must buy. the realism adds another dimension to the game and makes for some unbeleivable game paly. the only down fal with the game is that it still does not have the liscenses for the teams or players so the names are fake and sometimes not easy for the untrained eye to distinguish from. however, overall the game has few faults and i would recomend to all.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Another great game but not that much different from it predecessor

In October 2001 an innovative and addictive game was released by KONAMI in Japan where it was known as Winning Eleven, elsewhere and in particular Europe and the America's it was better known as Pro Evolution Soccer. It was an instant success and has through each successive year become a game that has it's fan eagerly awaiting it's annual publication. It's fiercest competitor in this sports market is FIFA Soccer and it is simply a matter of preference as to which game one thinks is superior, since each have their own merits and demerits. For me however the rivalry between the two companies and fan sets is of little significance, it is and shall always be the game-play that's sets a good game aside from a great game, and good though FIFA is, PES, or Pro Evo as Pro Evolution Soccer is better known surpasses it quite substantially in my book. The vast difference in the graphics since that first publication in 2001is blatantly obvious, and even more so should you be fortunate enough to play the game on an HD ready TV. The players are instantly recognisable the graphics are sharp and vivid, and the animation is simply stunning. It is small details that make a big game like Pro Evo have the longevity it has. It would be quite easy just to stick with Pro Evo 5 and enjoy the game for the games sake. Small things like shirt tugging, and arguments between players after a bad tackle, add that little touch of realism that brings the whole Pro Evo experience to life. The facial characteristics of players when they score a goal or even better when they miss an absolute sitter are most amusing., but it is the overall feel and look that gives the game it's edge. The crowd participation, the changing banners and flags, the boo's and cheers of fans and players. This recent adaptation of the game comes with a new AI system called team vision which is claimed to adapt the computers playing style to counteract your play. This simply means that should you formulate a particular strategy for attacks the computer will reassess it's thinking to compensate, which is pretty damn clever in anyone's books. Although this as the effect of making the game slightly harder it does have the added advantage of also making it more realistic. I mean if you were manager of a football team you would adjust your tactics to facilitate a win wouldn't you...................well maybe not if your name is Steve McLaren. You can as you could in previous versions play at different levels and different types of cups, but as with real life it is the League that is the bread and butter of Pro Evo, and here you must start at the bottom and work your way up, which initially is quite easy, but the higher you get the harder it gets. You start with a budget, so you can't just rush out and buy all the expensive good players to win the Division 2 league, well you could if the players were daft enough to jump from Real Madrid to Scunthorpe. If you were fortunate enough to purchase a top class player whilst in the lower division the chances are his wage bill would wipe you out. The wages, takings and gate receipts are added to you balance after each game so it is advisable to check this periodically. You can start as any team you like and there are many to choose from from all the major leagues in Europe, and some even further afar. Once you have been playing a while and reached the dizzy heights of the Master League then the game comes into it's own, by this time you've had plenty of practice with the control systems, which to be honest are reasonably easy to master, it's the timing that can be difficult. You will also have probably developed a decent gaming strategy, and purchased some decent players. You will now find the competition a lot harder and the game a lot more enjoyable since there are no longer going to be easy wins and each point will have to be fought for. Once in the Master League finishing in a qualifying position of 1st 2nd or 3rd will gain you entry into Pro Evo's version of the Champions League. At this point the money is rolling in if you are winning but poring out if you are losing so it is quite crucial that the buying of selling of players is given some serious thought, since at this stage of the game injuries can cost you more than the cup. It is very easy to get yourself caught up in this game, the graphics are absolutely superb and the game-play very realistic and enthralling. The sound adds a lot to the game and the commentaries are supplied by Peter Brackly and Trevor Brooking, but they do tend to repeat themselves a bit to often. There are however some very fun one-liners in there which just ease the pressure of big time football a little. This version has a little added trick, there is an auto save feature which means you can't go back and replay a game you've lost in order to progress further, it stops you cheating in other words not that the thought even crossed my mind. If you have no desire to play in a league at some time, then you have the option of playing a friendly or an exhibition match which are just one off's, but equally as entertaining. You can play here as any team you wish, against any other team you wish. Perhaps in the present climate where NO British team has qualified for the European Championships, a few more young Rooney wanna be's will have to suffice with such a product for their football entertainment, and they will not be disappointed, this is a superb game, which looks fantastic and plays equally so. I do personally think that £40 for a computer game is well over the top, but in fairness it does seem to be the going rate, and on reflection the hours of enjoyment I and my son have had from this series of Pro Evo, probably just about justifies the price tag. Having said all and this apart from the obvious increase in graphics quality, and the slight increase in game-play there really doesn't seem to be to be much justification in bringing out a newer version this year, it's more or less more of the same however enjoyable it may be.
