Advantages: Playability is more realistic
Disadvantages: The set up menu
I am a massive fan of Pro Evo. I have always viewed it as superior to FIFA. But this latest installment makes me think that it is time to give FIFA another go.
I managed to purchase Pro Evo 2011 for a very reasonable £20.99 online. Good value when you consider some high street retailers sell it for £39.99. I definitely recommend shopping around on the net for this game.
The first complaint I have about the game is the usability of the set up menu. Although the menus look the same, they have completely changed from a functional point of view. It must have taken me all of 10 minutes to work out how to make a substitute, let alone change my formattion. By the time I got to play the game I was so frustrated and annoyed with it. I know what you are thinking, read the manual (RTFM), and I did in the end, but even then it is not clear. They have made it unnecessarily difficult to set up your team and that spoils the experience for me.
Once I finally started playing an actual game I noticed a few improvements and few flaws. The main improvement is that you can not just pass the ball to Messi or Ronaldo and they then go round everyone in the tam and then score. Oh know. Now, after a mazy run, players begin to tire and can be tackled a little easier. This is much more realistic and makes the game fairer. Dribbling around players is now a lot harder and more challenging.
Also, with the passing, the ball will go in the exact direction you aim it. In past Pro Evo games, you merely need to point in the general direction and the ball will ping to the nearest player. Not in this latest version, it will simply go to the space you aim.
The most frustrating aspect of the game is the off the ball running of the surrounding players. Often a player will be running along side the play you have control of and he will simply stop. Why can't he make an intelligent run into space?
All in all I have to say that I am mainly disappointed by this game. Perhaps I need to give it more time, but I find the set up menu frustrating and the actual game still has flaws and seems to be almost slower than the previous version.
More work needed, I give it three out of five dooyoo stars
Summary: Stick with 2010
