== PROJECT GOTHAM RACING 3 ==
Project Gotham Racing 3 is an arcade style car racing game that was released the very first day the Xbox 360 was released. Most Xbox 360's came with this racing game. The game was developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Project Gotham Racing 3 also won Official Xbox Magazine game of the year. The game is rammed full with some beautifully licensed cars that are nicely detailed. There was later a Project Gotham 4 released. This game doesn't actually feature a story but it does have an advanced Career Mode with a lot of features. Project Gotham Racing 3 has plenty of options and game modes to compete in. Also Project Gotham Racing 3 is possibly the fastest car racing game around today but can it compete with the likes of Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo? Project Gotham Racing 3 has plenty of options
=== GAMEPLAY ===
Project Gotham Racing 3 does have a lot to offer fans of racing games but I just feel Forza Motorsport has the slight edge. Project Gotham Racing 3 does actually have more playable game modes than most racing games so in that respect it can be classed better. The main game mode doesn't have a story but that's mainly because its an arcade style racing game. It does have a cracking Career mode though and certainly makes up for the lack of a story. The aim of Career mode is to compete in events and win the events. There are absolutely loads of different events with different types of races and different amounts of races. After starting Career mode you will notice that you have to buy a car, Cars don't come cheaply on this game but they also don't cost money. They actually cost credits which can be earned from winning races races or even losing them. Winning races gives you more credits but doing certain things in races can earn Kudos as well and Kudos is earned to level up. Things like drifting around bends, tailgating, doing jumps and other things will earn you considerable amounts of Kudos.
When you're in Career mode racing you will notice the different types of races available and some of these include normal races where you have to finish first in order to progress, speed challenges which you have to drive past a speed camera at a certain speed or higher to win, overtake races are where you must overtake so many cars to win, cone challenges are where you have to do so many laps whilst driving through cones and earning Kudos plus there are many other challenges available in Career mode. When in an actual race you will notice that the game is faster than most racing games. You may also notice in the top left corner of the screen it tells you how much Kudos you've earned this race, in the top right corner of the screen you will notice your current position and your target position and bottom left is how many laps you need to do. Target position is the minimum place where you need to finish to open the next race or challenge. When driving you will find the controls can be a tiny bit sensitive so be careful. Also when driving around the tracks you can take in some of the beautiful scenery but only for a split second because its a fast game. Usually each race has a total of 6 racers which include you.
Pausing whilst in a race lets you enter photo mode so you can take pictures of your car or what ever else you can see in camera mode. You can also alter sound effects, restart an event or abandon the event altogether in the pause menu. there isn't just Career mode on the game because you can also play in an online Career mode which will put you up against gamers from around the world. The races and challenges you play in single player are also played in this mode. There are also tournaments you can compete in but first you have to qualify for the respected tournaments. You can also view leaderboards for Career mode as well as view all your current cars in your garage. Something else of interest in the game is the Route Creator. You can create your own tracks and compete on them against the computer or with friends. There are more than 100 million custom routes to create which is a jaw dropping amount. There are also Xbox Live features so you can race in friendly matches against other people or you can race in time trial events to beat your own scores. Gotham TV lets you watch peoples races that they have saved and uploaded you can also save your own for people to watch.
There is a lot to do on Project Gotham Racing 3 and most of it will take months to explore and conquer. You may also want to check out Xbox Live Marketplace for content to download for the game as there is quite a bit for it. Overall there are over 80 racing cars to own and there are lots of different tracks to tackle. Some of the tracks will become reversed at some point to try and get you out. The game also has a few different weather effects which will effect your races and can become more difficult to drive in. There are numerous camera angles for the car that you can use to drive in. I prefer to see the car at a distance rather than seeing from inside of the car. i find it easier and I feel it looks better. Overall Project Gotham Racing 3 has a lot to offer and is definitely worth owning.
=== GRAPHICS ===
Considering this was one of the first games out for the Xbox 360 it still looks absolutely stunning. all of the cars look beautiful but for some reason they always look really shiny even after races. The cars are detailed really well and there are only a select few that don't look like they should do. One thing that was disappointing was the colours of the cars because there isn't an awful lot to choose from and they don't look the best. The weather effects are fantastic and I love the way you could be half way around a track and the weather automatically changes. Its the same when the sun goes down and starts to go dark if you're in a long race. The basic scenery is great too and so are the layout and basic track designs. Overall I quite like the graphics because no matter the age of the game they still look beautiful.
=== SOUND EFFECTS ===
The sound effects are brilliant and possibly one of the best features to the game. The only thing i don't like is the boring music at the main menu and other than that its perfect. When you're navigating the menu the sound is quite good but the real sounds come into play when you're racing at high speeds. Most of the cars sound absolutely fantastic even when you make a collision into the back of another car the sound takes over and sounds great. The game even sounds better with surround sound. I cant stress how brilliant the sound effects are. also when its raining you can literally hear the rain hitting your car. The music when you're racing is good because the car has a radio which can be changed to certain channels with all different types of music tracks to suit almost everyone.
=== DIFFICULTY ===
The difficulty to the game varies because each race or challenge you do has certain advantages and disadvantages. When you choose a race there are five different difficulty levels. The difficulty levels are novice, easy, medium, hard and hardcore. Novice is far too easy for average gamers because the cars you're up against seem slow and very easy to pass and I also think easy is too easy as well. Medium is a little harder and can be a little bit challenging for some people. The hard and hardest settings are probably best avoided until you get better at the game. Also hard difficulty you have to finish second or first and on the hardest setting you must win every race. Each race you are given a medal representing your chosen difficulty. Online play and other features can be difficult but soon as you get the hang of the game you will be okay.
=== LONGEVITY ===
The length of the game is very interesting because you could have the game on easy and finish it but you wont unlock everything because of the other difficulties. Its probably impossible to do the game on the hardest setting until you get the hang of it and buy faster cars. So you will most likely find yourself going through the game several times for fun as well as other reasons. Career mode is quite good in length and with other game modes the game can last a staggering 40+ hours which is absolutely amazing.
=== PROS ===
*Over 80 cars to collect and race in.
*Lots of different races and challenges which add a bit of variety in the gameplay.
*Some stunning graphics and sound effects.
*The game is quite good in terms of length and will get you hooked.
*Quite a few different game modes to play.
*The game is really cheap now because its old.
=== CONS ===
*Not an awful lot of online modes.
*Also there isn't that many playing the game online anymore so it might be hard to find a race.
*Project Gotham 4 is better and can be picked up for the same price.
*The colouring in the game seems a little off and there isn't that many colours you can use for your cars.
*The game can be extremely difficult later on especially on the harder difficulty settings.
=== FINAL THOUGH ===
So is it better than Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport? I would have to say no but it certainly gave them a run for their money. The game is definitely different and can offer something new to what those two games offer but it just isn't as special as those games. Project Gotham Racing 3 does feature more playable modes but it doesn't have enough cars or tracks compared to Forza Motorsport. Also Project Gotham 4 is slightly better than this game but for the price its still certainly worth owning.
If you love a good racing game then by all means this is worth owning. I would definitely recommend the game to fans of a good old arcade style racing game. Also if you like games such as Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo then you will most likely love this too. The game manual is okay and has some useful hints and in formation. Also the game has an age rating of just 3+.
I did have the game when I first bought an Xbox 360 and it did come with it but when my first Xbox 360 broke I got rid of it. However recently I decided to buy it again and I got it from Amazon. It only cost me a surprising £1.75 including postage but now the game is on there for a little over 32 which is still great value. I definitely think for its price its worth owning and I am very pleased with it overall.
I like the game and its cheap. I would give Project Gotham Racing 3 a reasonable 7/10!

When you first play the game you notice that you now don't have to stick to having a so called "naff" cars such as a mini cooper as in the previous games. This time you can jump right in and buy really powerful cars on your first play of the game. If your wanting a game that features lower speed cars such as VW Golfs or even a Subaru Impreza this game isn't for you. On the other hand, all the cars go 170mph or more and performance wise this game brings better cars to it than it's predecessors. The games menus are very cool and sleek as well as the navigation throughout the game being simple to use. The cars physics are great and drive just as well as the previous versions of PGR. The main difference between this game and the previous ones are its graphics. The graphics are clean and crisp and support 720p resolution. One new graphical feature that has been added is a new "in-car view "allowing you to view the car dashboard and surroundings from inside the car, this brings great realism to the game and helps show off the xbox 360's graphical power with the reflections and partials on the windscreen. The on screen HUD displaying rev counters and Kudos etc has changed slightly but looks great. The offline career mode has many tournaments with loads of races in each one. These races are the same as the previous games where you have to drive with style to earn Kudos. There are various types such as speed camera, cone challenge and street race. This breaks up the repetitiveness of the game. In my opinion the offline career mode seems slightly easier than PGR2 as I completed the normal level in only 2 days where as the same level in PGR2 took me considerably longer. Though this doesn't really matter as there are four levels of difficulty and the top 2 are still very challenging. PGR3 most strongest asset though is it's online play you can either race your friends in unranked races or compete in the online career mode which uses TrueSkill to match you with drivers of the same level.
(If you are competing in ranked races I'd advice you to do some practice before racing as it can be still be harder than offline career mode, especially if it's your first time)
One of my favorite things about PGR3 is the introduction of Gotham TV. This is basically virtual TV channels that people can tune in and watch the best in the world or their mates race in online matches. This creates more importance in races and makes you feel great when you know loads of people are watching you race.
So is it worth buying PGR3? Well in my opinion, defiantly yes. It has hardly any flaws and graphically looks the best car game I've ever played (for when if was released). It supports 5.1 surround sound and supports online play as well. This game has to be one of the best racing games around on any platform.
So if your just looking for a driving game on xbox 360 or your a die hard PGR fan, this sequel is excellent and a must buy.
I bought this game when it first came out for £30. Since then i have had hours of fun playing it! The graphics are pretty good for one of the first xbox 360 games out and the game play is very good as well.
There are a fair few race tracks on this game. There are race tracks in London, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and the Nurburgring. I love the fact that you can cruise past Big Ben and Buckingham Palace at 200+mph. They also have the Nordschleife on the game which is awesome!
There are loads of cars on this game including the McLaren F1, Ferrari F50 and Ariel Atom. All cars on grouped into classes, Class A being the best and fastest cars. They also have old Ferraris and they also have Shelbys. The Class A cars are very hard to handle at first and you tend to oversteer a lot but eventually you will get the hang of it!
You can also play this game online against people from all around the world. the online play is good and not very laggy at all. There don't tend to be many people online these days though.
The game can get repetitive and boring after a while. Going around race tracks over and over again does get boring but overall the game is quite good.
A great racing experience on the xbox 360, following from project gotham racing on the xbox console, the next generation of project gotham racing was born this time on the next generation of console the xbox 360, with even classier graphics and much improved gameplay this is the best driving game on the 360. You can race the fastest cars in the world from Ferraris to Lambourghinis, which look soo realistic and drive soo smoothly on the tracks. The circuits look soo beautiful because of the graphical force of the 360s engine, you can race your cars in Tokyo, New York, London and many more, there are loads of different challenges and cars to unlock of your way yo becoming the ultimate driving champion and collecting all the trophies which are available. A new feature is the online mode which allows you to watch online race on Gotham TV which is amazing, you can also race your cars online against your mates online or against the online community. A great racing game, i really enjoy the online games with the headset on, soo fun with your mates.
I personally feel this is a great game, I got it as part of my 360 package and the graphics and physics of the game is brilliant, the only gripe I have with the game is that the tracks are too boring/similar.
Maybe it's because I'm an F1 fan and I'm used to purpose built tracks but I couldn't get used to racing around Las Vegas or London, the best track by far is the nurburgring, maybe because it gives you freedom to go off the track without losing a load of time and getting annoyed, I like to thrash around the tracks pushing it to the limits, which you can't do around the streets.
I also with there was more street races rather than other things such as hot laps and time vs kudos, I admit this game made it more exciting as you play through it first time as it would get boring just racing constantly, but once the game os over, you can only race on the same boring tracks again and only in exhibition mode, if only there were new bonus tracks to unlock, especially F1 tracks to race around once the game is over.
The cars are great though, the graphics are brilliant and maybe I expected the perfect game too much and too much of an F1 fan, the reason I didn't really like the first Gran Turismo's was for the same reason I believe.
I really did like this game, it was somehow annoying once I completed the game that there wasn't much to do, first time through I give this a 5* rating, however with nothing to do afterwards and only the Nurburgring the only track I really like racing on leaves it just sat there not doing much.
I bought this game because I saw it in Game station for about £5 and thought it was going to be really good. I had also heard of Project Gotham 4 and how it was a really good game and thought that this game was going to be a really fun and realistic racing game.
How wrong I was! I have to admit I have not played this game much as I just hated it so much and have better games to play with so my review may not be completely accurate.
Having played Gran Turismo on the PS2 (which is a fantastic game) I thought this would be similar. It is not. The gameplay is awful and the graphics in the game were terrible compared to other Xbox 360 games even if this was one of the first games released. I think the graphics are worse than Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2 which was made before this game on a system with worse graphics!
I suppose a good thing about the game are there are lots of different cars and tracks giving you a wide choice of were to play and what to race if you can bear to. Another problem with the game is that the supercars are miles better than a normal car and you simply cannot beat them with a worse car!
The handling on the game is terrible and you don`t feel in control of the car at all which makes the game even worse to play!
Overall I really can not recommend this game and hope no one buys it because it is cheap (which it is and now I understand why!) and because they have heard of Project Gotham 4 and think it is going to really good. I recommend you buy better racing games like Forza 2, Burnout Paradise, Need For Speed, Test Drive Unlimited (which I have also reviewed) and even Gran Turismo 4 PS2 over this racing game!
Time to take it back to the store and hope I can get my fiver back and buy something better like Burnout!
Do not buy!
Despite its name Project Gotham Racing has nothing at all to do with Batman. It's a car racing game that takes you round the streets of some of the world's most famous cities including London, LA and Tokyo.
PGR3 (as it's know for short) is a simulation game - the cars handles very realistically and even the slightest mistake can knock you out of the race.
There's plenty of licenced cars to choose from including Ferraris McLarens and a host of others. However, like Gran Tourismo on the Playstation there's unfortunately no car damage when you crash - so even if you run head-on into an advertising boarding at 150mph you'll emerge without a scratch. I know it's only a game and that it may be down to the car manufacturers not wanting to see their motors damaged, but it would have been nice (and more realistic)!
There are 5 difficulty levels to try out, but this is one of my major gripes with the game - the first 2 levels are ridiculously easy, but the top 3 are stupidly hard.
The learning curve is quite steep, but this doesn't stop PGR3 from being a top class game - and one that can be picked up very cheaply nowadays!
This was an xbox game that i didn't particularly want, i got a good deal on an xbox and this game was part of it. I thought being a popular classic racing game that it would be a good one.
I have not played it much if im honest with you, so my review may not be accurate but i was extremely disappointed with it. The graphics and gameplay just didnt impress me at all.
I had never played a racing game on xbox before this one but from my experiences of gran turismo and formula one on the PS2 i was expecting a lot better gameplay.
The handling seemed very unrealistic and the graphics were not the best. i really enjoy racing games and am yet to come across a good one for the xbox.
I really want a good racing game for the xbox, this not being it so i would appreciate any comments with suggestions, thanks!
Before this game, I had Project Gotham Racing 2 for the Xbox Console, and I loved it.
Unfortunately, this game lacked what I loved about the prequel.
Before the handling for the cars was about as realistic as you could get with a games console, even with a normal controller. With this game the handling was far too loose.
The problem with the handling in this game is that the slightest touch of the control stick can send your car reeling into the crash barrier. However, if you alter the steering too much, the handling is like trying to handle a JCB.
Another of the problems is that before there was a very rigid structure for the tournaments and races. In this game, there was a distinct lack of structure, and I spent nearly an hour trying to work it out... unsuccessfully.
I would recommend this game to any petrol head out there, but not for the gamer looking for a great race.
PGR3 is a fast paced arcade racing game, all the cars are super fast and super fun. The handling is not as realistic as say Forza however it is much more player friendly and easier to use. The career is good fun however it is easily completed and does not provide the depth that some other racing games have. Although the game is fun once you heave completed career mode it does seem a little too repetitive to go back and redo the career.
The multiplayer is lots of fun with plenty to keep all player happy, xbox live however is not so good with few people now playing the game and those that do not providing the competition needed. Tracks can be created to provide millions of different tracks for you to hare round at 200mph!! however this is a little limiting as it is all basically permutations of the standard tracks of the 5 cities.
As a gamer who plays more or less solely racing games, I have to say I was a little dissapointed with this eagerly awaited game. This is less of an actual racing game, and more of an arcade type 'challenge' game. There is very little actual racing, with the bulk of gameplay made up with different tasks and challenges to complete, which I believe to not be the main point of a racing game.
Another let down was the choice of cars. In my opinion, these were 'too good' to be available at the start of the game. In most other racing games you start at the bottom and work your way up to the better cars for the races you cannot complete with the initail choice of car. You still unlock better cars as you progress, but I found that the first car I bought was sufficient to get me through most of the game which spoilt part of the fun, I thought.
The graphics in this game are excellent but unfortunately I feel this to be one of the only positive points to show for this game.
To sum up, a fairly made game, but not the racing you would expect for one of the leading racing games for this console.
The PGR series of games first spawned to life as MSR on the Dreamcast. At the time the concept of racing in real life cities was too much to say no too.
However after the Dreamcasts demise, MSR was born on the XBOX as PGR.
Cutting straight to the chase, the game is easily pick up and play, and the emphasis to drive cooly, like in MSR, is addictive.
As one would expect, being an HD game, the graphics are top notch, with good gameplay to back it up.
However there are some things you might want to consider. PGR is an arcadey type of game at heart and the attempt to ucture e.g. master a crappy car before using a powerful car, has dont this no favours.
I still miss the charm of the original MSR game, which does not seem to have been captured in PGR, the small touches e.g. no concrete walls to keep you on track in MSR, just small gates/barriers.
In Conclusion, PGR3 is a good game, and something racing fans with relish. Good graphics, good multiplayer and a good all round package
Good game 7.8/10
Project Gotham Racing three is a racing game for the Microsoft Xbox 360 games console.
In this game there are no slow cars, every car is a super car. You do not need to wait half of the game before you can drive the cars you really want.
The handling of the cars in this game is very arcade like but you will have to break for the corners, or you will put your car in to the wall.
There are many game modes to choose from, street races, time challenges, cone challenges, speed challenges and kudos challenges to collect the most points.
You can appreciate the graphics, but as soon as you turn there is an very noticeable blur effect which ruins the look of this game.
You can get this game for a bout £10.00 which is reasonable value for your money. I recommend this if you do not want to purchase the sequel.
A slick addition to the xbox 360 catalouge with hairpin turns and dream cars, PGR 3 is a certain classic xbox 360 game. Although the later installment of PGR4 has recently been released, don't shun this game as it has enough to compete with it's older sibling. The tracks are perfectly detailed and the cars are ultimate eye candy with paint blurring into the wind as you rack up speed on the track. The single player is lengthy in itself but it's the multiplayer that sets PGR3 aside from the other xbox 360 launch titles. With games such as Cat and mouse, which add a childish twist to car racing and the bog-standard race, PGR3 gives a sweet online package filled with hours of online entertainment. The achievmentsare fairly challenging which gives lengthy appeal to both the average and hordcore gamer. For a constant adrenaline rush from start to end, buy PGR3 where you won't be less than astounded.
PGR 3 was the first game I purchased for my Xbox 360, and I believe that the game highlights all of the great qualities that the games console offers. Firstly, the controls get some getting used to, as the default setting s are not at all conventional. Once you get your head around those the game becomes highly enjoyable.
The graphics are incredible and show off the true power of the xbox 360. Never have virtual cars looked so good! There are many to collect and all the major brands are here - from Renault to Ferrari.
To really get the most out of the game, hook your machine up to xobox live and play against others across the world. Playing other human beings dramatically increases the tension and excitment levels. I must admit that it took me a while to get xbox live and i found the one-player side of PGR3 a bit tedious. Also the multiplayer (not xbox live) is ok but would be better if there were more cars allowed on the track - 4 is the most amount of cars allowed.
All in all, it truly is an amazing online game, so if you have xbox live i would definately recommend this, and if not then steer clear (if you excuse the pun!)
