Advantages: The game was made

Disadvantages: Slightly short and unmeaty career mode, more racing options would have been nice.

This, my friends, is one helluvagame! Forget every other attempt at ever making a good racing game, the eagle has landed. From the very start we`re treated to a cacophony of beautifully rendered super cars, screaming V12s, growling V8s and a hard aggressive soundtrack that makes you want to nick your Mum and Dads ageing Rover, believing you could actually drive it like the ghost of Ayrton Senna! (But don`t do that, really, rovers are crap!) The quality spills directly into the game too, with hardly any difference between the sparkly renderings of the load up screen and their in game carcerations. Menus are quick and easy to navigate, the only real quibble being how some of the car classes are unrealisticly mixed. But trust me, PG4 has many ways of making up for this intzy bitzy shortcoming.

So, you`ve picked which shiny behemoth you`re going to thrash within an inch of it`s mechanical life, (and there`s no shortage of those. From Apollo to Zonda they`re pretty much all in there.) You`ve picked whose real life street you`re going to terrorise with countless decibels of exhaust noise (usually any one that lets you rip a koenigsegg to it`s top speed!) and you`re ready to go. A few seconds of loading time and Bam! You`re there, on the start line. Wow, you think. Look at all the people who came to watch! They`re waving at me! Cheering ME on! I`d better give them some of what they came to see! You gently build up the revs using deft touches of the brilliantly accurate throttle control, then you stop. You realise that finally, at last, somebody has cracked it. This sounds real, oh my god. I kid you not, there isn`t another game out there that even comes close. Microsoft have done a sterling(moss) job of capturing every cars thrilling engine note. And surely that`s what we all buy the games for in the first place, chances are we`ll never drive our very own Ferrari. And how dissapointing is it when you splash out £50 of your hard grafted for wages only to hear what sounds like the wet warblings of an over revving washing machine! Don`t know about you, but when i play a racing game i want my ears to bleed! For me, this is where most other racers fall, and smash thier faces on asphalt!

Anyway, back to PG4. The handling mechanic is, dare i say, near perfect. It`s up to you how they drive, easily picking racing lines or smoking round hair-pins on the rims. You are never forced into either style. Then comes another ace from the pack. PG4 is not only stylish, realistic in grapical detail and easy to pick up (though tough to master), it`s damn fast too! Seriously, playing GT prologue after this feels like a sunday afternoon trip to asda in your grans lada in comparison!
So i guess you could say i`m a quite a fan. It just feels the team got everything right this time around, and i feel bitter at the fact they may never be another racer quite like it.
Ladies and gentlmen, if you don`t own this game already, quite frankly, you`re mad. Here is one for the collection. J.Hunter.

Summary: Brilliant.
