Pure had a lot to contend with when it first came out, with the MX VS ATV series for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the MotorStorm series for the PS3, im surprised it fared so well.
The thing that made it survive in my opinion, is the fact that it was different from the 2 other series in its genre, for a start it featured large variety of tricks over outrageous jumps, as well as nitro to aid you in flying higher. MX VS ATV featured tricks, but was more realistic so you rarely left the ground more than a couple of seconds, Motorstorm doesnt feature any tricks at all. So thats 1 point for Pure.
Another thing that i thought might dampen Pure a bit was the fact that the game is purely ATV's, wereas MX VS ATV and MotorStorm both have a variety of vehicles in which to crush your opponents. However i think the right decision was made with Pure, the brilliant track designs wouldn't have been possible in say a monster truck, or other form of heavy vehicle.
The tricks featured in the game are just as incredible as the jumps, featuring a special trick for each character, and about 15 preset special tricks that every character possesses, not to mention your standard tricks, of about 30 or more.
The games AI is very challenging, this provides a much more satisfying game experience, you'll always be in the thick of it with vehicles on all sides, instead of you soaring out in the lead within the first 30 seconds. If you want to get ahead, i suggest you learn the track and choose the best racing line, there is always one thats better than the other, remember to try to land on a flat or to land on a downwards slope never an upwards one, use boost if you think your going to hit a upwards hill. Avoid mud as well, that will create loss of traction and speed.
Pure was criticized for not containing for a local multiplayer mode, the game only supports Xbox LIVE play for 2-16 players. I found myself rarely wanting to play in the multiplayer mode however, i was too engrossed in the Pure world tour mode.
The price has dropped dramatically since the games release, and you'll probably be able to pick it up for as little as £8 nowadays, i really recommend this game for purchase, or even rent it if your not sure.
P.S one of the achievements in the game is very frustrating, it requires you to complete the world tour mode without exceeding a certain amount of race wins (or something to that effect), if you do fail this achievement you'll be required to start from scratch if you wish to earn it.
slow, boring, uninteresting. All words that leave my mind as i play this game. Pure is a game set around the world of ATV racing, where as you play as your custom made character in the most extreme and the most ridiculous locations imaginable. As you go through different races you will unlock different parts for your ATV. ( I finished the game yesterday so mine well tricked out :D) You will also unlock extra ATVs' and slots in your garage for more. The graphics at times are really pushing on the console and create a great emersive play. So. Time to get in depth:
-- Graphics and physics --
Pure boasts an amazing array of effects, ranging from mud sprays, lens flares and high detail models/textures. The race tracks are amazingly well done and collision models being surprisingly tight for such high detail models. I was expecting the occasional invisible wall or a non-physical piece of floor or something, but its just not there. I would say that on the Graphics and physics front they have it down to the tee.
-- Over view --
I would have liked to talk more but i have so many more things to do i need to be quick(ish) so. to sum up. It is a fantastic game that will give you a great arcade style ATV racing game, I'm sure that if you try this game you will love it.
I've always wanted to ride a quad, but I would never be able to save up money for it. Fortunate for me Disney had make this game - PURE - this game is pure racing, with additional tricks to boost your speed. Playing this game for the first time is shocking, the graphics and the gameplay is a fresh idea, which keeps you want play more. You race against 16 opponents in each race; you fight for parts, the better place you going to get the better parts you'll get to modify one of your quads.
For each game mode you need different ATV ( quad ), the quad attributes are MAX SPEED - most important thing for sprints, ACCELERATION - valuable in Races and Freestyles, HANDLING - it's important for every game mode otherwise you going to land outside the map or hit the tree etc, BOOST - the higher the boost meter the stronger it's going to be, TRICKS - high tricks meter means you going to do tricks fast. You can modify your ATV not only with parts that will change its speed, there is many things you can change in the way it looks, so it will look like you want it!
There are few game modes in Pure, and you will need different quads for each one. Race is a standard race with laps, with many turns, shortcuts and some moments to do tricks that give you boost. Sprint is a standard race from point A to point B, it's like downhill, from what I remember you usually go down, and there are lots of possibilities to do crazy tricks, in Sprint it's all about speed. In the third mode called Freestyle your goal is to score as much points as possible, you gain them from doing tricks, there are things to pick up, such as score multiplayer, boost, fuel or a star that allows you to do one of the best tricks. The Freestyle ends when you run out of gas, you can refill it by pick-ups or good trick combos.
World Tour ( single player campaign ) will keep you busy for long, and some of the levels are a big challenge. I have never played multiplayer as I don't have access to X-Live so I can't write about it. Once you finished the World Tour there is no more power to play this game again, like start over or something. It's sad that on one console only one player can play, no split-screen of whatsoever is found.
Controls are great only at beginning doing tricks might be a little annoying, it might be complicated for the really young players, but with time you get used to it.
Graphics in this game make you drop your jaw all the way to the ground. Lots of colors makes it look good and warm just looking at somebody playing give you some entertainment. The levels are so beautiful that sometimes you would like to stop and look around the great landscapes. The ATV details are good allowing you to see some of the parts you just installed; maybe it does not make big difference for ordinary players like me but for some real quad owners probably would appreciate it.
The last thing is sound and music. The sounds of ATV's are adding magic to the gameplay, even when quads are so small they can still roar like some monster tracks. Music in the game is full of energy, its fast and helps you to keep being focused.
Pure is a good game with amazing gameplay, you need to be focused otherwise you will not win. Graphics are outstanding, colorful and because of them sometimes you might turn on this game for few races after you finish it. With time the world tour get's a little boring but the challenging races repay it. The Disney guys should add a split-screen options, even thou the game is really good and worth buying.
Pure is an offroad racing game for the Xbox 360 developed by Disney Interactive.
I know what your thinking already, a Disney racing game.. no thanks but bare with me this is actually a quality title as Disney have recruited Black Rock Studios who worked on the MX vs ATV games.
The games main mode is its World Tour mode, this is the games career mode as you work your way to become the Pure champion. You will work your way through the ranks and as y ou go will unlock new faster ATVs and customization options to mess around with as well as compete in many race events.
This game offers a really interesting racing system, standard races where you race against a bunch of opponents to the finish, freestyle trick mode where you perform insane tricks and collect powerups to get the highest score possible and sprint where you race around smaller and more tricky circuits.
The games racing mechanics are one of the most fun and innovative in a recent racing game, at its core the game offers a really fun arcade driving model that is easy enough to pick up and play yet has some depth to it. The depth comes in the form of tricks and boost, performing tricks is easy to do simply a push of a button after you go over a jump will perform a cool looking trick, as you get more boost the type of tricks you can perform get more advanced until you can perform a super move which is reminiscent of the things you could do in the SSX games.
Boost is earned by performing tricks and is necessary to perform your super move but if you get it you will get a nice refill so there is no penalty! It is also used to simply give you a boost and get you ahead of your opponents.
Graphics here are stunning comparable with the Motorstorm games that are exclusive to the Playstation 3, environments are sharp and detailed and the muddy tracks will deform as your ATV wheels dig into the dirt.
Don't let the Disney name on the box put you off, Pure is a brilliant racing title well worth playing.
This game is so much fun and for such a cheap price I would highly recommend it too any xbox 360 owner.
The game is simply fun, a game where you can just spend 30 minutes of your time either on the world tour or battling it out over xbox live. What makes this game more exciting is that there is no other game similar to this out on the market which makes it a whole new experience for most.
'World Tour' is a single player campaign which sees you travel all over the world, racing on a variety of different terrains. The gameplay is quite simple, finish the race before your opponents to win, performing a number of realistic and unrealistic tricks on the way. Over the course of the tour you are also given the opportunity to upgrade your vechile as the races get more and more difficult.
Xbox Live is also a very enjoyable experience and with prices between £15-£20 I would highly recommend it to xbox 360 owners.
