Advantages: great visuals, easy to pick up and play, some nice features
Disadvantages: poor longevity, no split screen, not enough variation on the car driving styles
Good points
Race Driver Grid is graphically amazing and quick and easy to pick up and play. The single player mode is simply a career where you work you way up to compete in harder but more rewarding events.
It delves into customization a little, where you can tune your car and hire race drivers, but doesn't go into too much detail. Great for casual gamers.
The game play is very arcadey, for those who like sims, this one isn't for you. For those of you who love arcade games, this is a good game.
A nice feature, is you can purchase your racing cars from an Ebay replication if you don't want to pay the price for a new car. It also leads to more tactical decisions, as there may be a car which has won many events, but has also crashed many times and so is no longer as good as it used to.
The flashback mode is great for when you crash, as you can rewind to before you made a mistake and carry on. It also gives you the chance to view your crash over and over!
Bad points
One thing that lets this game down is the lack of a split screen. More and more console racers are now doing this, which becomes a little annoying for those who enjoy playing games with friends in the same room.
The car control doesn't differ enough from car to car for my liking, they are all a little too similar.
The longevity of the game isn't great, it does get quite repetitive once you are about half way through and becomes a bit of a chore to finish it.
Conclusion
This is a good game for those arcade fans and casual gamers who pick up and play for a little while instead of having long gaming sessions.
Whilst it has some new, good features, there are too many bad points to give it 4 stars. Maybe codemasters should have spent less time on the visuals and more on the making the gameplay a more varied, to keep the interest and longevity up.
Summary: Good for casual gamers and arcade fans but not enough variety to keep most entertained for long.
