Now, my question to you is are you ready for a video gaming breakthrough? I hear statements made like this in the game's industries hundreds of times a year be it weak nintendo wii, or trying to bring arcade gaming into the home with crazy controllers and gaming gimmicks. yet i think EA are in the process of making absolute gaming breakthroughs. I was, as most, just a fan of EA in the respect of playing the odd FIFA game or maybe renting a JAMES BOND game when they took over the franchise. Yet what i must stress is this game shows me that EA are FINALLY!!!! finally making GREAT games. right now down to the game ... Read the complete review

The time has come for a new competitor to rise and jostle with the somewhat unrealistic skating legend that is tony hawks.... This compeitor is skate and it's simple yet realistic controlls finally offer an alternative to the same old tony hawk. Instead of pressing a to jump, for example, user flight the right analogue stick down thenm up to initiate a jump. This has instant appeal as it simulates areal skaters movement on the board. The main single player mode is lengthy with many challenges packed into the career. The online play is nothing special and seems like an addition thrown in to appeal to the xbox live gamer. The game features no real life famous characters ... Read the complete review

The first thing to consider before even contemplating buying this game is whether or not you have an interest in skateboarding. If the answer is no, I would highly recommend going for a far easier and more universal skating game such as one of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. This very much focusses on the technical side of skateboarding and requires significant commitment and focus in order to master the game. Skate is the first game that really takes into consideration the complexity of skateboarding and allows full control to be given to the player. The game is played by performing flip tricks with the right hand stick, and grab tricks with the right ... Read the complete review

So you loved Tony Hawks games and now EA have released their skate game, well sorry to let you down but this and Tony Hawk and worlds apart, but believe me this a good thing, no it's a great thing. Tony Hawks games started getting stale many releases ago and with no competition it was still bought and thus the poor releases kept coming every year. Skate is a whole new game, this really is an innovation by EA. In the past year or so EA have been using that usually long ignored right analogue stick something to do, and this game is no different, but unlike the trick stick on FIFA or NHL games, the right stick is used far more than just a nice addition ... For a long time there was only really one contender for the skating game crown - the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. However, this series has become increasingly unrealistic in recent years, with the focus being heavily on completing ludicrous tasks and stringing together outlandish combos in order to earn points and unlock in game items, with the focus very rarely being on the actual skateboarding itself. Skate brings the genre back to its roots, combining fantastic graphics with an all-new control scheme that just feels right. Gone are the days of pulling of 10 minute long combos with your eyes closed, and instead we have realistic and challenging, but ... Read the complete review
