Sonic Team have been working long and hard (I think!) on this latest effort in the sonic franchise Sonic Unleashed.
The story follows the blue hedgehog as he struggles against his old rival Dr Eggman, abourd Eggmans spaceship Sonic discovers Eggman has found a way to split the planet, Sonic gets blasted into space and the planet gets broken into several pieces. Sonic must restore the planet to its original state with help from his (irritating) sidekick Chip. However he doesn't seem to be himself anymore ..
The gameplay is divided into two main sections, the daytime levels and night time levels. In the day time levels you will play as Sonic as you know him, the speedy hedgehog will rush through environments at breakneck speeds while collecting rings, the game makes clever use of 2D and 3D switching between each perspective to give you the best view. These are by far the most entertaining levels in the game and are reminiscent of the classic games.
The night levels are completely different; Sonic has been transformed into a "werehog" which is pretty much a bulked up version of himself and for some reason he has stretchy arms. These levels are broken down into basic combat where you can button mash your way through waves of enemies and platforming.
The fighting is decent but the platforming is where it really goes wrong, the game puts many annoying pitfalls into it and really cheap traps which will have you dying multiple times. Add to that they have kept the archaic lives system so after a few cheap deaths you will have to start all over again!
There is also a plane section where you and Tails fly his plane between the sections of broken planet, the gameplay is your basic blast enemies because you can type of thing and it feels really a bit pointless as it does nothing but lengthen the game.
Sonic Unleashed has good moments with the daytime classic Sonic levels, but is let down because the Sonic team don't know where they want to take Sonic, precise and frustrating platforming along with flying games don't belong in a Sonic title at all!
Considering how much I loved Sonic the Hedgehog as a kid, I was really looking forward to this coming out on Xbox, my favorite games console.
I was hoping it would be exactly the same basically, the old enjoyable game it always was.
Unfortunately, things never are that way, are they. Sega have decided to take Sonic and make him and his maps 3D. Yes, that's right... 3-Dimensional. It's insane. What right did they have to do that to Sonic's fans?
Okay, so the game could still be good, right? Being 3D and all? Well no, actually, the game is lame. Sonic is difficult to manouvere, the maps are really hard to get through, and the tasks are confusing. This game is aimed at kids.. I'm 20 and even I can't do it?
I don't know of any kids who've tried this game. I hope that no kids have played this game. Sonic is 2D, fun, and cartoony. Why oh why did they have to do this to him??
Sonic everybody knows it has come so far from just a little 2d arcade game. Sonic unleashed is the best sonic game i have ever played it is 3d the graphics are considerable for sonic. It is made by sega who make brilliant games it is 7+ but i would say +12 because of the controls they are very complicated.
A huge floor in the game is that it is single player which is ok for an hour or two but after a lon period of playing time you get bored stiff. however this floor is cancelled out with all the good things about the game i think the music is good it is jolly and quite funny at times.
The storyline is basically eggman has destroyed the world and it is your job to conect the world back together by speaking to the locals and working with you trusting sidekick chip. there is a unique twist to this edition of sonic as you can either play as sonic the hedgehog or sonic the werehog and that is a really good thing and plays a big part in the storyline.
I would recommend this to kids who just want to have fun and dont really want to get too technical.
This is a classic sonic game - which actually has some good graphics.
Basically your the nintentdo character Sonic the hedgehog and you have to go around completing lots of differnet missions as him.
The graphics and music are very good. However, i found the controls very hard to get a grip on - which i have never had a problem with on other games. The game does spend a lot of time on tutorials trying to get you to understand the controls, but they are still hard to get a grip on.
Also this is just a single-player game and does not have any multiplayer functions so if you want a game to play at a party this is not the one to get.
However i must say if your buying it for young kids, who play by themselves and are good and understanding the controls thay will love it and i recommend it. But if your not like this, there is not point getting it in my opinion.
This game is full of action at high speed, with exciting adventures for a Sonic renovated and displayed based on the latest technologies employed by the team of Sega, as the Hedgehog Engine, system owner of the company that brings 2D and 3D elements to the game.
Various aspects in the game, always focusing on the fun of the player. Fighting infighting is one of the attractions of the new Sonic, as well as various items of innovative gameplay and technical attributes never seen before in a game whose protagonist is the hero bluish.
One of the major novelties in Sonic Unleashed is the transition between day and night. With the passing of days, the acclaimed character gets different missions and, consequently, performs various actions. This is one of several innovations implemented by Sonic Team, which seeks to reinvent the famous blue hedgehog trying to maintain the success that caused the character in the market of games.
Sonic Unleashed is built on a powerful new "Hedgehog Engine", which introduces seamless 3D to classic 2D camera transitions, whilst delivering a rich and expansive world with multiple paths to choose from. Under development for three years, the Hedgehog Engine produces a visually rich next generation look and feel with elements of classic Sonic gameplay mechanics. The Hedgehog engine will help re-define the gameplay experience for Sonic fans and newcomers to the franchise alike.
