Advantages: Lots of cars, island, Xbox Live challenges, cop chases, cheap
Disadvantages: Boring missions, no storyline and bad sound effects!
Test Drive Unlimited is a driving game published by Atari for the Xbox 360 console (If you do not know what this is I have reviewed it separately.) I first played the game because my Xbox 360 came with the demo and I played it and really enjoyed it. I loved the cop chases and the lovely island but there were some things I did not like as well.
The things I liked:
I liked the fact the game had lots of licensed cars (over 100) which look great and really realistic. These licensed cars come from brands like Audi, Aston Martin, Cadillac, Dodge, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Mc-Laren, Mercedes, Nissan, Volkswagen and many more! The game also includes bikes which is a big plus for me because if you start getting bored driving your car around the island you can pop on a bike and do lots of wheelies! You can also download new cars through Xbox Live which adds even more fun to the game!
I also liked the island which you drive around and is based upon the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu. The island is really big and you can drive for many miles and miles of roads and racing tracks adding a nice landscape to the game and a bit of variety.
On Xbox Live while driving around doing the normal things at any moment you can be challenged or challenge other layers whenever you want which is brilliant.
Unlike most people I actually did enjoy the cop chases and thought they were fun.
The things I disliked:
Most of the missions are boring and the ones where you have to drop off models and hitchhikers may sound fun but after a couple are very boring and you need to do these to earn in game money so you can buy better cars or bikes or even houses or tokens so you can buy some lovely new clothes!
There is no storyline or plot - you just drive around the island racing and completing missions!
The sound is really bad and the sound effects are boring.
I would say this game is better than the average Xbox game but with just a few changes could have been brilliant. The game manages to get boring after a while even though there are a massive amount of cars and bikes. Even the fantastic island can get boring if there is no plot and there are boring missions! I would say this deserves a place in racing fans collections and most others but I would not rush out to buy it anytime soon.
A good thing is though you can get this game cheaply. I got mine for £9.99 from Play.com (reviewed separately) and you can probably get it for a fiver on eBay!
This review may appear on various sites under the names ns1209 and mariofan123.
Summary: Could have been brilliant!
