The Darkness is so appealing because its not just your ordinary shoot-em-up. Its full of cool super powers and mysterious creatures and giving the game this demonic twist creates a fresh experience for the player.

Im not one to judge to technically, I either like what I see or I don't and graphics wise The Darkness fits the bill for me. The environments are crisp and cut-scene graphics are cool. Even the loading times between levels are filled with a short cut-scene of the main character Jackie talking.

The story is fantastic because there are two running parallel to one another. On one side you are trying to stop your uncle Paulie but meanwhile you have to figure out why the hell demonic arms are springing from you.

There are plenty of different guns for you to take your enemies down but the real fun lies in using the powers of the Darkness. Two snake like creatures which can creep around the corners and rip the hearts out of unsuspecting enemies. Yes devour the hearts of your enemies so you can get stronger and develop even cooler powers like the black hole which simply sucks all your enemies up.

Of course the game would be a bit too easy if you had unlimited use of these gifts so the catch is they can only be used in the dark, sometimes you have the opportunity to take out the streetlights but other times you'll have to rely on your good ol' pistols to do the job.

Another cool addition is the darklings, small imp like creatures which you can summon to your aid, each with their own ability, some will simply attack your enemies while others can be used to take out the lights for you and you can direct them anywhere you want them to go!

Overall the game is definitely worth buying, to play out the story and for even more fun, just to watch the two snake like creatures fight over a beating heart right before your eyes. The only problem with this game is as a shoot-em-up the aiming system is far from perfect which may annoy some gamers however the what can only be described as awesome collection of powers you possess certainly make up for that.
