The Darkness (Xbox 360)

Rating:

Advantages: Nice graphics and using the Darkness powers are enjoyable.

Disadvantages: Nobody plays the multiplayer anymore. Repeated environments in single player.

A gangster story with a darker twist. The player plays as Jackie, the member of a crime family under attack from his former employer - his uncle Paulie. However, on his 21st birthday Jackie discovers that he posseses supernatural powers which he utilizes to destroy his attackers.

Graphically, the game is brilliant. The subway system is especially well done, with the city represented successfully as a dirty and corrupt environment. This is mainly due to the same environments being used over and over again, which can become tiresome.

You can impale people, throw them into black holes, summon demons to kill them or just shoot them with the tiny selection of guns available. The combat against the other gangsters, especially near the start of the game, is a lot of fun. There's something oddly satisfying about watching people run away from you, seconds before you impale them and throw them through a window using The Darkness.

This game is entertaining for a while, but the story is only playable once and the multiplayer is too flawed to fully enjoy.

Not only are there never any servers available anymore, but the gameplay itself was always extremely laggy whenever there were more then 4 people in 1 game.

A fun game, but only for the single player. Worth a rent rather then a buy.

I give this game a 7/10

Summary: Worth a rent rather then a purchase, as the single player will keep you entertained for a few days.
