Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Xbox)
by Lions
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was the first Splinter Cell video game I had every played, so I really did not have any clue what to expect from it. After playing it a couple times and getting familiar with the controls, I found it to be unlike any game I had ever played before. If you are looking for a guns blazing, ... "shoot what moves and sometimes what doesn't" type of game, look elsewhere. This is a STEALTH game. In fact, you actually gain extra points for making it through the level without firing a single shot, something I have done on a couple missions. You lose points for each person you kill (though you can gain some back if you knock people out rather than kill them.) It truly is all about the stealth.
I would recommend this game to someone who is looking for something different. If you have ever wanted to be that assassin that crawls through vents, hangs upside down on pipes, and drops down to make the swift kill, this is the perfect game. Though it only has around 10 missions, the challenge this game provides will take you at least an hour per mission, probably more for the later levels. Believe me, this game will not disappoint you. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (Xbox)

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
X-Box
Whilst a lot of people prefer to play the more up-to-date game systems, I still have a love for the older X-Box. This could have to do with the fact that all the games are now a lot cheaper to purchase thanks to the newer games machines on the market, but also the fact that there is ... no denying that there are quite a few good games for the x-box and why miss out on a bargain!
Of course, this X-Box Grand theft Auto does not have the graphical capability as those found on the 360, nor does it have the size allowance that can be found on the up-to-date games, though it still does have a lot of fun upon the disc.
There is a reasonable sized town in which to play, with two different sides to unlock and play, adding more and more missions as you go. The missions include such ones as chasing a car to the more complex missions of shooting people in a time frame. There are also many mini missions which can be picked up in order to help you raise that little extra cash such as becoming a fire engine driver and racing to the different fires in time, to delivering pizza!
As with all the Grand Theft Auto games, you are able to commandeer many different vehicles from taxi's to fast cars, lorries to helicopters, motorbikes to busses. Even when you are not completing a mission, I find it fun to steal a vehicle and see just how long I can speed until the police catch up with me!
Be warned that this game is certainly not for youngsters. There is some very strong language and a lot of violence. It is certainly not a deep graphical game though you do see shoot-outs and some blood splattering over the place.
Although it is not a huge town on this game, the game does take a long time to complete and I haven't even reached the end yet. When you complete missions, you open up more and more and they just get more difficult. You also have a lot of parts of the town to explore, all of which open up more as the game continues. Hidden within the town are also other mini missions such as racing around a race track, and these mini missions can become even more addictive than the missions themselves.
One aspect in which was disappointing. Especially as I have played the 360 version of this game and can do it on there, is that although there is a lot of water around, you can not actually swim! You will find a few things in which you can do on the later model game though can not do in this one and that does get annoying, though looking at it as this game alone without any comparisons; you will find it very addictive and fun to play. I have wasted many hours playing this game and I haven't tired of it yet.
Do not give up on the old X-Box! I picked this game up for £1.50 at a car boot sale which is a real bargain and it has offered hours of fun. It may not be up to the same level as GTA on the 360 but it has a lot of great aspects to it.

Voodoo Vince (Xbox)
by renniechew
I recently bought this game again after reminiscing with my friends about those classic Xbox games we used to love so much. I remember liking this games especially so wanted to see if it is as good I remember it as.
***About Voodoo Vince***
The story is based around a voodoo doll that comes to life after some fairy ... dust falls on him after a mess up with some robbers. These particular robbers are stealing some stuff from the shop where he lives and ends up having to kidnap the shop keeper. Luckily the shop keeper can somehow talk to Vince and tells him to follow the fairy dust to find her and save her. He goes through swamps, mansions, jazz towns, doll towns and so on to find her.
Unfortunately the dust has enchanted some creatures to go after Vince. Luckily, apart from hitting them, Vince can protect himself by stabbing pins in himself, getting crushed and blended etc in order to hurt them...like a real voodoo doll. Amazing.
*** What I thought***
Maybe because it reminded me of the good old times where I spent hours of my life playing this game, but in my opinion, I found this game so much fun to play and so addictive. It's a pretty easy game so good if you just want to entertain younger children.
***The price***
Surprisingly, this game is quite pricey for such an old Xbox game. It's around £15 on Amazon and not much different on any other site. It's probably more worth the money for those looking to reminisce like I did though.
***Overall***
A fun, easy game to play for a rainy day aimed at children. Read the complete review |
