Advantages: Addictive - makes you want more, So realistic
Disadvantages: Can make you miss inportant things!, Needs a large time commitment to play
The whole championship manager "thing" started off way back in the early 90's, and its probably fair to say that most of its current fans have been following the series from way back when. It would be nice to think that there are a slowly increasing number of championship manager fans though. I used to like computer games, now I just like championship manager. Despite the text-interface, the hours of play needed, the vast amount of statictics and number crunching, this game somehow distances itself from the "nurd" reputation that any other similiar game would have. I personally find this game more addictive than anything else in todays modern world. This may sound completely insane to anyone that has never played the game but its immense realism actually results in you getting into a frame of mind that would suggest that Championship Manager 01/02 is more than a game. Sounds stupid? Well it is stupid. But that does nothing to defer from the fact that when I have started an especially good career at one of my local clubs I often do not emerge from my room until days later. I have given this game only 4 stars because I can appreciate that it is not for everyone. It just doesnt appeal to some people to just sit at the screen making "decisons" without actually getting any arcade action. So whats it all about?? I am probably forgetting that some people have never played this game so I guess I should give a brief overview of what actually happens... First you choose a football team to manage, then you must try to win as many games as possible in order to keep the chairman happy and eventually win cups and leagues. How you accomplish this is entirely a different matter. You must set your tactics, pick your team, buy players, manager your team finances, keep your players happy and build a rapport with the fans. Probably due to this being about the seventh version of the game, it i
s amazingly developed and allows you to do anything from complain about referees to fine your players. If you like football i'd say give it a go. Don't mock this game before you've tried it - you may just be surprised.
