      Very helpful

Not that great and doesn't live up to the movie

I love the movie of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and managed to pick up a copy of the game on the XBox pretty cheaply and thought I'd see what it was like and if my kids might like it when they are a bit older. Unfortunately it's not always easy to get a game to match a good film and I think this falls a bit short of the mark in that respect too. I'm afraid to say that it doesn't have alot of things that I loved in the film which is a shame.

In the game there is no Johnny Depp to amuse us and there is no Oompa-Loompa songs to keep us amused too. I was quite disappointed by most aspects of it as thought they could have used the movie to inspire a decent children's game.

In the game you do play as Charlie Bucket who is really the main focus in the movie if you don't count Willy Wonka himself. He is of course the poverty stricken young boy who lives with his parents and grandparents and finds a golden ticket to enter the factory. However you don't really guide him on the tour. Instead, you follow the other ticket winners like Augustus Gloop and Vercuca Salt.

For example, when Augustus Gloop gets punished for being greedy with all that chocolate, you help clear the machinery by grabbing a couple of ooompa-loompas and putting them to work. So you have basically have to decide which ones to recruit for each job as they all have different abilities. You have to also fix things along the way that are broken which detracts somewhat from the actual tour.

I also thought the controls were not great and were a bit unresponsive to be honest with you. You you sometimes have to hit the buttons a few times before it works which is not great. I also expected a little more from the graphics on this console as well when you consider it's capabilities.

The thing in this game that is fantastic is the music and audio effects. I wouldn't say this saves it though as the rest of it is not that great and I can see children getting bored with it quickly. There had to have been so much more they could have done with this game based on the movie. The gameplay is just not up to scratch I'm afraid and for me I wouldn't bother buying this but maybe rent if you want to test it out to see what you think.
