Advantages: Fairly good fun and a long game for replay value
Disadvantages: Quite diverse and random at times
As someone who loves Family Guy, probably more so than the Simpsons nowadays, I wanted to try the Family Guy game on the Xbox as had already played the Simpsons games and they were pretty good. While not being exceptional this game is not too bad.
As you may expect if you have ever watched the cartoon series, and very similar to the show, the game is fairly random and crazy. You switch between playing as Peter Griffin, Stewie and the dog Brian as you go along. Each of these characters embarks on an adventure that is in no way linked to the other. Peter is on a strange quest to find Mr. Belvedere and eliminate him. Brian is attempting to prove his innocence against allegations he impregnated Peter's father-in-law's dog. While, meanwhile Stewie resumes his battle with unborn brother Bertram.
The format of the game is that of a side-scroller but that does of course have it's limitations. You do not have that much freedom to move about the screen and you only really get two dimensions to operate in for the majority of the time. At fairly random points in the game you have to enter into challenges to earn a reward of some kind. These moments can be very funny though.
The game is full of one-liners from the various characters in the Family Guy show. Most of them are pretty funny and amusing, however some of them can get a bit tiresom when you've played it a few times and when you have to replay a hard level a few times. The game is quite funny overall though and is loaded to the brim with same type of humour that is in the TV show. Some examples of the humour in this game are Stewie jumping on bellies of pregnant women and using the babies as projectiles. Peter, meanwhile in one part of the game has to take down casino staff at an Indian Restaurant with a variety of weapons.
The game is pretty long so the replay value is good enough. The fact that you are kept on your toes by the fact that the gameplay is quite diverse means you are kept interested for longer. Fans of Family Guy will definately want to play this game if they can get it but I'm not sure how many others will bother with it.
Summary: Interesting enough and like the show
