Advantages: Ease of use, The graphics
Disadvantages: Can't use your own music to soundtrack the game, Price
I approached this game as a non-gamer, I had found Halo a beautiful and intriguing game but just too difficult for me. JSRF is completely different! From the beginning it was very easy to quickly get the hang of the game and to produce some flashy, satisfying tricks. The basic premise is an 'arcade' game which sees the gang of rollerbladers skating around a futuristic Tokyo using grafitti to overcome the Poison Jam gang and the corporate police. The game creates a number of different ways for you to engage with it; you can complete tasks, learn new tricks or just skate around knocking over pedestrians who cry such complaints as "That's my bum!" (JSRF). Your attention is kept throughout the levels by altering the sort of tasks you have complete and introducing increasingly difficult tricks that become essential to completing courses. This game is the perfect game for switching off after work; it takes some attention but is satisfying and fun. I liked the non-violent aspect of the grafitti and the fact that tasks like races required you to exercise some memory muscles. The cell-shaded graphics are great fun and really make the acarde style of the game. We managed to spot one glitch but there are certain moments in this game when you just have stop on your rooftop and look around. The controls are easy to get the hang of though it took us a while to work out that the left hand trigger allowed us to see what was in front of us, really quite useful! I also found it useful that there is a robot who you can ask questions of, this reduced the amount of times I threw down my controller in disgust at not being able to complete something. You can chose from a number of soundtracks which are basically about five songs on a loop. This means you can chose something similar to what you would listen to when you have the radio on and decreases the chances of irritating theme tunes gettin
g stuck in your head. However, we found that only one of the tracks was at all appealing and were disappointed that there wasn't a create your own music facility.

- 10/05/02 Yeah - we've found it pretty easy. Sometimes, that's what you want though isn't it? Wish the multiplayer had a bit more to it. |

- 10/05/02 Yeah, got it now, thanks.
Is it me or is the game pretty easy overall? It's still great though.
Thanks again for the help. |
