Need for Speed Carbon is the second of the series on the Xbox 360 and using next gen graphics. The game got a solid rating of 8.2 from IGN which was up there with other racing games, such as PGR4.
This racing game is very much an arcade type and is basically just street racing. The graphics haven't improved a huge amount since Most Wanted but still look smoother, especially when racing.
The aim of the game is to control all the territories, which are each made up of a number of sections, in which there are several races to be won. After you have control of the territory you race the boss, in Carbon Canyon, where you have to get as close as possible to him in the first race and try to get away from him in the second, to get a quicker time and more points.
Customisation to your cars is still here, but with fewer options. Underground 1 and 2 seemed more concentrated on changing parts of your car but this has been dulled down a bit.
Overall NFS: Carbon isn't the best racing game you can buy, but it's nonetheless a great game and an impressive sequel.
Need for Speed Carbon is an action filled street racing game and is a lot of fun to play. In my opinion it is not the best in this genre but it is a good game and well worth playing.
The action is set in Palmont City and your task is to take over from the other street racing crews in a series of races through the streets. You have history in the town having previously fled with some money and through a series of other characters you will learn the reasons for your departure.
There are four areas that you need to take over each operated by a different crew, and these are further divided into zones, winning two races in a zone means it is then under your control. As well as targeting other zones you will also have to defend ones you already control which helps to extend the game play in this game as it is not al about conquest. Another feature that I like is the fact that in the races you can have an accomplice, these can either act as blockers or they can scout ahead to sort out routes. This adds an extra dimension which makes the game more interesting.
As\ well as the various types of street races you will also find yourself racing in canyon environments when it is time to beat the boss racers and with all of the environments they are varied and packed with obstacles. Some of the courses are quite technical however in the boss race building up a ten second lead sees you automatically win the race, however this also works in reverse.
The driving controls in this game are really solid and they need to be as some of the courses are quite challenging and there is a great variety of cars to get your hands on as you accrue money.
There is a decent amount of game play in this game especially if you look to unlock all of the features and visually it is a good game. A lot of the action takes place at night and it does seem to use some of the same features quite frequently which is a shame.
Well worth checking out and can be purchased from Amazon for £29.98 new or £18.97 in the new and used section.
