Advantages: Excellent shooting, good squad mechanics, feel like part of a team

Disadvantages: Storyline is a bit weak.

Star Wars Republic Commando is a shooter for the Xbox developed by Lucasarts.

The game takes place during the Clone Wars which is after the events of Star Wars Episode II. You are an elite Delta clone and the journey follows your life from a baby to a fully grown elite solider, though in cut scenes only. You are Boss one of a group of an elite Delta Squad, and you are sent on a variety of missions which cross over with some significant paths of characters from the movies including General Grevous and even Jedi Master Yoda himself. The storyline is largely forgettable apart from the more impressive encounters with the movie characters.

The game is a shooter and you are equipped with a multi purpose blaster rifle, sniper rifle and rocket launcher. You can pick up some alien weapons too which are more primitive including an assault rifle and shotgun. The shooting action is really satisfying as the alien enemies you encounter will spew blood everywhere. Melee combat is basic but really satisfying as you have a retractable wrist blade which you can use to stab enemies, nice!

Throughout the game you will be with your elite squad of Deltas, Fixer the hacker, Sev an intimidating tough soldier and Scorch who delights in the use of explosives. Each of your deltas is equipped with the same weapons as you and will help you out immensely throughout the game, they can't die either which is good as you can send a delta to heal a fallen ally with a bacta injection though if you go down its game over.

You can order your squad around with basic commands as well as give them orders to breach rooms, go and man a turret, hack a terminal, place a demolition charge and so on. Most of these actions you can actually do yourself but as you are supposed to be the leader it seems more fitting to order your squad around! The squad AI is very good and they always do as they are told.

The graphics are really stunning and the voice work is excellent, the music and effects are ripped straight from the movies too.

Star Wars Republic Commando is an excellent shooter and a must play for fans of Star Wars.

Summary: A good Star Wars shooter.
