If there's one thing that can make every videogame reviewer cringe in unison it's the news of a game release based on the next big summer blockbuster to hit the big screen. This was the reaction most people gave to the news that Universal were all set to release a game based on the feature film The Chronicles Of Riddick, that was already looking like a second rate summer flick itself. Imagine my surprise then when I actually got around to playing the game and discovered a product with the words 'sleeper hit' plastered all over it. The Chronicles Of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay is a shooter developed by Vivendi. The story follows the character of Richard B Riddick who has been captured by the bounty hunter Johns and is taken along to the maximum security prison called Butcher Bay, the aim is quite simple to simply escape from the prison but it is a long a tough journey and you will have to team up with in mates and shoot your way past a lot of guards before you will be free! The story is actually very good and is well told as you have many conversations with in mates which really helps set the scene. The game has you perform a number of things, at the start you will have ... Read the complete review

For the most part the game is a first person shooter (FPS), a genre that the Xbox does far greater than the PlayStation 2 (Take Halo 1/2 v Killzone for instance: there really is no debate which is superior – Halo for those uninformed). I say for the most part because the game combines FPS with fighting and stealth elements to provide a rather unique experience. --------What is it all about? -------- The game is set before the ...
