Spongebob has long been a craze of kids up and down the land and now my two year old son has started recognising this strange character around the place. I recently got the videogame a few months back as managed to pick it up for under £5 and it's very entertaining, even though I confess I don't or haven't watched much of him. The game itself revolves around the movie.
The basic story is as follows. Plankton is the villian of the game. He is the three-inch tall evil mastermind behing various plots to enslave the whole of planet Earth. His latest scheme called Plan Z see's him framing Spongebob's boss, Mr. Krabs, by stealing Neptune's crown and blaming him for the whole thing. He then plans to enslave the entire population of Bikini Bottom by using mind-controlling hats. Very bizarre!
This game is a simple platform game for kids but adults will find it fun too! There seems to be fair bit of variety in this version. There are plenty of entertaining and strange things you can do like driving Krabby Patty Car and riding in a tub and clam shell. You can also use Patrick's tongue to swing across from things like a rope.
To attack enemies Spongebob uses an uppercut style air move and can also roll up into a ball to navigate certain stages of the game. Patrick too has his own fair share of abilities and unique moves.
You can collect Goofy Goober Tokens in a number of ways. The best way, however, is during the game's driving and sliding stages. Driving and sliding is a new element and it just happens to be the best thing about it.
In fact, the driving sequences deliver more of a challenge (not to mention thrills) than a majority of the platform stages. During these stages, of which there are several, you get to drive an enormous hamburger and slide using an old bathtub.
The first time you encounter a driving or sliding stage, your only objective is to clear it. Later, you'll need to return to each of them and re-play them as Time Challenges, Ring Challenges (drive through a set of rings without missing a single one) and Macho Challenges (same as Time Challenge only less forgiving) to earn extra Goofy Goober Tokens.
The only problem for much younger children is that it's not that easy for them so is probably suited for slightly older children. You need pretty sharp reflexes to play this and succeed. I found the driving levels offered the most thrills and were the most intense.
Althoug quite weird that is what gives this game it's charm and appeal and seeing how cheap it is now for this console I would recommend getting it for your kids as they may well love it.
Play as SpongeBob or Patrick working together to save Mr Krabs and all of Bikini Bottom - each with their own set of manoeuvres
Interact with all your favourite characters from the movie including authentic voices and special cameo appearances
Earn 'manliness' points to get power-ups like the 'CartWheel Attack', 'Electric Guided Sonic Wave Guitar' and the 'Macho Bash'!
Hop in the 'Patty Wagon' with SpongeBob and Patrick for a whole new driving experience
Six huge 3D environments to explore all inspired by the movie including bonus levels and rewards.
This is a childrens game and wouldnt recommend it to much of an older audience. I have played on it and it is ok but not a game that i would play a lot of.
