Advantages: Great action game

Disadvantages: Hardly any

If number two in this series was going to match up to number one then you were always going to be on to a winner however the great news is that Ghost Recon 2 surpasses its predecessor and is a great game to play.

Even better news is the fact that with this game a number of changes have been made which means that you get a slightly different gaming experience rather than having to go over the same old ground again.

This is a third person game which immediately is an improvement on the original in my eyes however this will mean little to those who have not played the original version. The objective of your game is to lead your squad through North Korea (how topical is that?) where a rogue leader is up to no good.

In the single player game you have sole control over one player only, for the rest of your squad you will rely on the artificial intelligence to make sure that they support you and fortunately this works really well, they are pretty good at spotting enemies and opening fire on them and basically keeping out of your way.

In all of the levels the action is fast paced however you are always heavily out numbered so use of cover is imperative rather than just running forward firing at will which is a tactic that will soon see you dead. All of the 15 levels are large and sprawling and well set out with a variety of locations both urban and more rural.

The control functions are easy to pick up and the aiming mechanic is one of the most realistic I have ever used. Visually the only slight disappointment is the fact that the enemy soldiers lack animation and apart from dying show little reaction to being shot.

This game also has a very competent multi player function which is well worth playing. There are five modes in which to play in such as Hamburger Hill where you have to dominate the high ground and a siege mode which focuses on either defence or infiltration dependant upon the team objective.

The big reason I like this game so much is the sheer scale of the game and the fact that this lends itself to a lot of repeat play. Definitely highly recommended and this game is available new at Amazon for £6.99 or as little as £1.98 in the new and used section.

Summary: Great action game which improves on the first.
