Advantages: Long career mode
Disadvantages: Poor graphics
Poker seems to have become fashionable all of a sudden with a host of celebrities playing the game and late night tournaments on TV so it is no surprise that the gaming industry has jumped on the band wagon and perhaps given the problems for gaming websites in the USA soon the only option will be to play on your x-box especially as there is an online option for this game.
I must admit I know a little about poker but in no way am I an expert however whatever type of poker you like you can play one of the many different versions however the main play is centered around the most popular version no limit Texas Hold-em.
In career mode which is the best version of this game where you play in a number of big money tournaments however first you need to enter and compete in the various satellite competitions. You get to customise your player and allocate some playing styles and characteristics in this mode.
This game can be quite entertaining however there are a couple of drawbacks. Firstly it is not that difficult, the artificial intelligence of the other players is pretty basic and does not provide enough of a challenge, they seem to check a lot and this becomes a bit repetitive and makes winning a lot easier as you get to see the cards without having to raise the stakes very hard which means even with poor hands you will often see it through to the flop and river.
The other disappointment is the graphics, although you are supposed to be in genuine locations you just do not get to see much of them and there is a total lack of animation from the other players, there is just not enough going on.
For those into the game this is worth checking out but if card playing and betting leaves you cold then it is not one I would recommend, certainly my decision to rent was a smart one.
Summary: Poker game

somerton - 02.12.06 I would love to be able to play poker, but I just cant grasp it...or roulette.. they dont seem to give a very good return for your money, or at least the coin slot type in the bookies dont... i was thinking of buying some sort of game to learn with, before I go and lose my shirt in the local casino. |
