I have had a great 5 nights here

Dougies is a hostel 15mins walk away from the center of Port Douglas in North Queensland. The hostel has a very tropical feel, with a large campsite at the back which is the cheapest, and dorm rooms which are around $25 a night or $135 for a week. I have been here for 5 nights and am leaving tomorow. The facilities are great here, there are 2 tv areas that are outdoor with comfy sofas. Theres also a bar, living room and kitchen area with a jukebox playing music all day until 12pm at night. The bar is very cheap and the backpackers here definately make use of it. You can hire cutlery when you check in and also a box to keep all your food in the fridge. The kitchen could be bigger for the amount of people who use it, they also need another fridge and more cupboard space. The small kitchen is however very sociable and part of the bar so you can just eat your dinner in the bar and its very easy to talk to people whilst cooking or eating. This hostel is very friendly, there are a lot of people working in the town and long termers. I have probably talked to more people here than I met on Magnetic Island! Theres also an internet room with global gossip internet which is a rip off but most of australian backpackers seem to use it! Theres a pool table, and a pool but I havent used the pool as the beach is just across the road. The staff on reception are very friendly, and were happy to refund some of my money as Ive decided to go back down to Cairns for one last party, as its quite quiet up here. Its been nice to be able to go to bed early with all my trips I have done this week as the bar shuts at 12 and people arent noisy after this time. Also have had very nice roommates who come in very quietly. I can recommend this hostel to people who are sociable, dont like spending time in their rooms, enjoy the beach and if you want to visit cape tribulation or go diving.
