Advantages: Central location, low cost

Disadvantages: Feels a little cramped

I stayed in Turku hostel for a couple of nights last year whilst exploring the city. After a bit of a trek from the railway station with my luggage, I found the hostel quite easily, near to the river and located close to the central area, very convenient for sight seeing throughout the day.

You can check in on the day of your arrival from 3pm, you pay for your stay and any sheets you need to hire as they are not included in the price here and are then given the card key to your room. I stayed in a dorm bed here and the dorms were relatively small compared to other hostels I have stayed in. As with every hostel I have stayed in, the rooms were bunk beds, which were comfortable enough. The room was a small 6 bed dorm, although there are some 8 bed dormitories. The shape of the room meant that part of the room was quite dark, which is not something I am fond of and felt a little cramped, however, for the price of Euro16 (now Euro18) a night, who was I to complain!

The reception area is very welcoming, comfortable sofas to sit on and a television - I enjoyed watching Home Improvement with Finnish subtitles! It also had more natural light than the bedrooms. Just off the reception area there is a small computer room for internet access which is paid for by placing coins in to a machine connected to the computer, quite useful if you just want to catch up on emails.

There are two kitchens in the hostel for those who choose to self-cater. One by the reception and one much further down the main corridor of the hostel. Both are large and well equipped, so it was very easy to cook meals, even when it was fairly busy.

For those who choose not to cook for themselves however, you can pay for breakfast in their breakfast room at Euro5.50 a person, though I cannot comment on the quality of it as I self catered during my stay.

The toilets were clean and there were plenty of showers available which is always good! There is also a Laundry Room for anyone who needs to give their clothes a good clean.

Overall I found this a good place to stay for a couple of nights, but wouldn't have wanted to stay much longer as I did feel it was a bit cramped.

Summary: Good for a couple of nights but no longer
