This Hostel is owned by veteran travellers so you would expect it to be a great place to stay, and it is. The accommadation is dorm based at $14 a night per person and each room as 6 beds or there are couples rooms at $30 per night. Don't expect much from the rooms as this hostel is aimed at travellers with more time than money but it did come 18th in the top 20 Hostels in the world at Wisenomad.com (the only one in the US that was not a Bannana Bungalow) and probably would have come higher if not for the Cleanliness(it isn't that bad). India House is located in Mid City at the intersection of Canal Street and South Lopez Street. Just 7 minutes to the French Quarter, 10 minutes to the Garden District, 10 minutes to Jazz Fest and overlooks many Mardi Gras parades, including Endymion - one of the largest in the city. The facilities for this type of hostel are excellent. They include :- a Swimming pool with sun deck which is great for cooling down in the sub-tropical climate; The Swamp, which is a small area in the back yard of the Hostel and is home to Samson, Delilah and Hercules(three Alligators). I had to see it to beleive it. Large common rooms; Fully fitted kitchen; Beer Vending Machine; Large common rooms with Cable TV and HBO; Laundry Facilities. The reception is open 24hrs with no curfews and it organises Swamp Tours but while we were visiting we went on a Swamp tour organised through a local Tourist centre and the Swamp Tour guide told us that the Hostel is very terratorial of its Swamps tours and don't like guests booking others, so we keep quiet about our tour (although it was great). This Hostel is everything a Travellers rest should be, Cheap with good facilities and very little restrictions on what you can do, unlike some of the Hostelling International Hostels.
