Advantages: Friendly, clean, lots of facilities, good price, meet new people
Disadvantages: Cant take your own alcohol
After backpacking around Australia and staying in many different hostels, some cheap, yet some quite expensive, I have to say that this one is by far the best out of all of them.
The Kimberley Klub is a youth hostel located in Broome, which is in the western territory of Australia. It is a YHA recognised hostel, which means that for those of you who have a YHA membership card, you will get in slightly cheaper than everybody else! It also means that as a YHA, the facilities and general standard of accomadation are of a much higher quality than your standard hostel. This is proved as they have won many awards in the past.
The hostel itself has many different types of rooms, I managed only to stay in a 4 bedroom mixed dorm, and a 16 bedroom mixed dorm. The four bedroom was obviosly a lot cleaner and smaller, however despite the 16 bedroom being so big and messy(due to a lot of teenagers not tidying up) it had a good atmosphere, and it was a great way to meet a lot of new people.
They have a policy whereby you are not allowed to take in sleeping bags, so I had to leave mine behind the desk, as this helps prevent the spread of bedbugs.
The facilities were good too. There were about four shower blocks, one for each side of the accomadation, which had many showers in where the hot water actually worked! and were always kept very clean by regular inspections. There was only one kitchen, whch is normal in a hostel, however this was a very large kitchen, big enough for about 14 people to cook, normally you may only have room for abot 6! Again these are very tidy, and there is a lot of room for you to store your food in fridges and freezers.
The actual accomadation was set in quite a tranquil location, and on first impressions looked more like a mini hotel than a hostel. There was a computer room which was open plan and led out onto a games room, where there was free table tennis, pool and a few games machines. Next to this you had a TV room, which I never went into, but it had a huge TV with lots of plush sofas which could hold easily 20 people. Then you have the dining area, again big enough for around 40 people, on nice big benches so you can mix with people quite easily.
Then next to the reception you had a bar, which was very reasonably priced and although quite small, was yet another good way to meet people, there was also another pool table here. Just off the bar there was a large pool, which was cleaned daily and was just lovely. They also have an area covered in sand where they organise volleyball games and you can just relax and sunbath if you choose. Sooverall there are a huge range of facilities and things to do just within the hostel itself.
The staff were very friendly too, heling me out with direction to places and telling me what was on if there were any special activites, which there is usually something on every night. They even organise a free night bus to and from town for everybody as it is located a little way fom the town. About the location, the beach is about 20minutes walk too, so they organise two free busses to and from throughout the day.
The cost of this was about $24 for the 16 bed, and $28 for the four bed, which considering I went at the peak of their business, I thought was reasonable.
Overall this is a fantastic hostel with lots to do. The staff are very friendly and are interested in you persoanlly, and ensuring you have a good time. The facilities are much better than many other hostels I have stayed in. I would definatly go back again. Their website is www.kimberleyklub.com if you wanted to go.
Summary: A great place to stay if you want to see the best of Broome
