      Not my favourite

Magnums is a chain of hostels, and they have one on Magnetic Island. It is the cheapest place to stay on the island with dorms upwards of $18 per night, the dorms are motel style behind the bar area. They do have 2 very nice swimming pools but the only trouble is that they are overlooked by the main road and an italian restaurant. These are free to use pretty much for anyone as there are no lifeguards or checks to see if your staying there. They have a large bar area on site, the drinks are reasonable but not cheap, the bar staff are nice although their entertainments are mad. A choice of pool competition, quiz night, toad racing, wet tshirt competition and band nights. The wet tshirt competition has got to be the most horrible night I have been to, I think most of the audience was old skanky men and this put me off going to Magnums for a few weeks. This hostel is not the nicest at all, its loud and a bit outdated, however if you are looking to save money the location is great. There is Alma Bay and Gefferoy Bay opposite the hostel, and theres also a dive centre next door so you can easily complete your padi for about $320. I dont particularly enjoy Magnums for a night out, apart from on band nights. However it can be a laugh and it is definately a locals bar rather than a backpacker bar.
