Advantages: Cheap, friendly and nice staff, good location

The Mansour Hotel in Amman was my choice of place to stay, no frills but no trouble either - anyone who has travelled in the Middle East, North Africa or India on a small budget and stayed in the murky hostels of the regions will be used to similar conditions.

The location is perfect - bang in the middle of Amman, just off the main street King Faisal. There's two levels, the bottom with single and double rooms and the upstairs consisting of dorm rooms - both floors have communal rooms with the downstairs being the most popular (perhaps because of the TV showing slapstick Egyptian films) or more likely because of the great hospitality by the receptionist who continually topped up people's tea and coffee free of charge throughout my 3 days stay there!

Room prices are as follows (all are negotiable though)

Double - 10JD
Single - 7JD
Small Dorm - 4JD
Large Dorm - 3JD

Rooms are a little bit pokey, slightly mouldy but there's no noise from the street and it's pretty good value. The hostel also offers internet at 1JD an hour, which is just slightly more than outside where it is usually around 750fils. The hostel also offers breakfasts for an additional 1 jordanian dinar and numerous tours taking in the sights of Jordan, they really are very reasonably priced and often work out only slightly more expensive than doing it yourself, especially considering that the bus stations (particularly the JETT one) are quite a way out from the centre and normally involve a taxi ride.. which shouldn't be expensive but may often turn out to be. They can also organise a reliable taxi to the airport for a price considerably cheaper than you will be able to get yourself!


1JD = 1000 fils and is more or less equal to a pound as well.
