Advantages: Good value, good facilities, friendly staff and guests!

Disadvantages: None

I've stayed at this hostel on two separate occassions now, and have really enjoyed both stays! It really is a great little hostel, and the price is very reasonable as well. Both times I stayed in the 12 bed mixed dorm, costing about £7 a night. The rooms weren't too noisy as most people made an effort to keep the noise down. There was a safe for each guest, and you programme in your own code to ensure security, this was really handy for our peace of mind! There was an en-suite toilet and bathroom in our room which was handy, if a bit dirty by the time 11 others had used them!

On the ground floor of the hostel is a bar, which is a great place to hang around at night, make plans for the next day or just drink beer and get talking to people. Down in the basement is the communal kitchen and all the cooking gear you will need, as well as a sauna (this was out of order when we were there, but you could pay to use it apparently). On the very top floor (up many spiral staircases!) was a computer with free internet. As this was tucked away, we had no problems getting to use it.

Staff at the hostel are really friendly. We were given details about a free tour (go to St Peters church and look for a yellow suitcase!), which was a great way to see the city. The hostel is really well located both for the Old Town and for the bus / train stations.

I love Riga, and every time I return, I will make sure I stay at the Old Town Hostel. Oh, they can also get you discounts for other hostels in the Baltic, including Vilnius and Tallinn, if you book through their front desk.
