Reef Lodge Hostel in Townsville is a little oasis in this horrible city.
It is quite a small hostel, packed in between bars and houses. Its quiet, serene and decorated like a buddist retreat.
There are private rooms and dorms, a private room is $57 a night which is quite reasonable for a hostel.
The best part of this hostel is that all the common areas are outside, with large fans, big flat screen tvs and huge hanging sofas to chill out on. It makes it very easy to meet people. Theres also a large kitchen which I didnt really use much but it was kept clean and there was everything you need to cook.
The rooms are clean, no bedbugs, and I found people staying there were very friendly and chatty. I ended up going to an Irish bar around the corner with a few people I met in one of the common areas.
This is a family run hostel and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They have a huge dvd rental section which is cheap and also a book swap with loads of different genres.
I really enjoyed staying in this hostel, as I didnt really like Townsville, so this was a nice place to come back to after having a rather unsuccessful day exploring the town.
