Having travelled over Iceland and spent the whole time camping at mediocre campsites where the benefit often was that there was simply no one around to collect money because the season was over and the downside was that the facilities were quite often limited, the camp site at the Reykjavik Youth Hostel came as a pleasant change. Initially we thought we would stay in the hostel but the prices at 2,000 ISK a person were considerably dearer than the adjacent camp site which is 1,000 kroner. Reykjavik Youth Hostel is ideally situated just outside of Reykjavik city, the capital of Iceland. A short 5-10minute bus ride takes you to the centre of the city, alternatively you could walk it in 20-30minutes. However buses are not too expensive so I took this option. On entering the YH, apart from YH promotional materials and the ovious backpackers lounging around I would have thought this a good 3star hotel! The hostel is extremely clean - it is very airy wide wide corridors and hallways and plenty of windows to let light in.
