Advantages: Can't get a better location, great value, great communal area, bright and cozy, friendly staff

Disadvantages: Only one toaster which didn't work properly

Trying to find The Green Hut Lodge was a complete palaver! Even though we had printed the map off from their website, which is easy enough to understand, from the bus station we didn't know which way we were facing and so we ended up walking up the main road back and forth a few times before finding out which was the right way! When we eventually got there (about a 15 minute walk from the station up some backroads), although it's only a small building from the outside, it's clearly visible by its bright green colour.

Before you go into the hostel you need to take your shoes off. You can keep these outside but, to be safer, keep them on the shoe rack inside or in your own room. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home right away. They showed us to our room one floor up and the room was great. It was very very basic with literally just a bed in the middle of the room but it was still lovely and cozy with the walls painted bright colours and the bright green bed spread on the big comfy bed. Our ensuite bathroom was great with a hot and modern shower. The room had good air conditioning so it was always kept cool.

Downstairs the big communal area was great and it's easy to meet other people. In the reception area (open 24/7) there is a pool table and a TV and DVD player with 3 sofas surrounding it. In the more relaxed room next to this there are 2 computers with free internet access (although from the website it looks like there are now 3 computers), 2 big sofas and a bookshelf full of books for you to borrow or exchange. Next to this room is the kitchen where you can help yourself to free breakfast (toast and hot drinks) and you can either sit in here or out in the small garden at the back of the hostel. There was only 1 toaster in the kitchen, which didn't particularly matter as it was never busy, but this 1 toaster didn't even work properly - you had to hold down the button to keep it turned on! Hopefully they've bought a new one by now! Laundry services were available which were very cheap and they came back to you the next day all folded neatly.

The hostel is in a great location right in the centre of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle. As I said above it is about a 15 minute walk to the bus station where you can get buses to take you up to Penang or anywhere else in Malaysia and also to Thailand. It is a 10 minute walk to Times Square which is the main shopping centre which has a brilliant theme park inside (I know weird to have a theme park actually inside a shopping centre but a great experience!). You can come in and out of the theme park all day with your ticket varying between the rides, the shops and the food courts. The Petronas Twin Towers are roughly 20 minutes walk away. The lodge is in a road which is just surrounded by entertainment - a night market in the next road, lots of shopping centres on either side and plenty of restaurants and bars all around. There really isn't a better location that you could be in.

The staff are brilliant and give great travel advice whatever you need to know and always had a huge smile on their faces.

The double ensuite was 90RM a night (£17) and dorms are 23-28RM per night (£4-6) which is brilliant value.

We didn't particularly take to Kuala Lumpur and don't really have many positive things so say about it apart from The Green Hut Lodge which really made our stay.

Summary: Perfect hostel

We just didn't take to it for some reason - didn't think there was much there to see and do and didn't find the people very friendly.
