Youth Hostels in Amsterdam in general

Newest Review: ... This had a private bathroom for only these 8 people. But you can book a wide variety of rooms for this hostel. In total there were two different showers and toilets which meant that you never had to wait long to get in the shower in the morning. The hostel offered a big locker in the room for each bed and also offered a more secure storage area for things like your passport and vital rail tickets. This cost Euro2 for 24 hours. The hostel had a very niced sized bar which offered good food and drink at very reasonable prices. Although I didn't eat here I can say that it looked nice as some people sat opposite us in the bar were tucking i... more

Premium Review Youth Hostels in Amsterdam in general: A better then okay stay (491 words)

Finding somewhere cheap to stay in Amsterdam was probably one of the hardest parts of my around the world trip. I stayed in a hostel called Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark. I stayed here a couple of nights ago whilst on my backpack adventure around Europe. We booked the Hostel for around Euro45 (which at the time was around £30) from the excellent Hostel world website. This chain has 48 hostels in Holland alone. We choose this hostel as it had received excellent ratings from numerous people who have stayed there, and we were not disappointed. We stayed in a clean dorm that could sleep 8 people. This had a private bathroom for only these 8 people. But you can ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bed & Coffee: Exactly what it says! (505 words)

Having scoured the length & breadth of the 'net trying to get four nights accommodation in Amsterdam we'd almost given up. Then, either by luck or fate as we'd almost decided to forfeit the plane tickets, we found somewhere to stay... Not terribly well advertised this hostel is small, and more like a guest house than a traditional backpackers - which is what it's billed as. There are only three rooms in the entire place and a separate shower-room and toilet which are shared by all guests. We were in the 3/4 person room (two singles & one bunkbed) and there is a double and a single room. So, you'll never have to wait that long even ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Youth Hostels in Amsterdam in general: Hotel Hortus (188 words)

6 of us in total stayed at the Hotel Hortus for 3 nights from Friday to Monday. It is a great place to stay, as it is located well away from Central Amsterdam and the Red Light District, where it can get very 'crazy' at night. However, it is still walking distance away from the afore-mentioned areas. The place was like a cross between a hotel and a youth hostel. There was a main room downstairs with 24hr Pool, Sattelite TV, Free Coffee & Tea, a selection of Bongs (:D) and a vending machine. It was 50 Guilders (about £15) per night, which included breakfast. The only criticism I can give was that the place was a little ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review YHA Vondel Park (197 words)

There are two YHA hostels in Amsterdam that are listed under the ISBN network. One is nearer to the central train station and the other is in Vondel Park. When I visited Amsterdam 3 years ago, I wanted to book the hostel nearer to the train station hoping that it would be more convenient. Well it was a blessing in disguise that it was full at that time, so I was left with the Vondel Park hostel, as I wanted to book it through ISBN network. The Vondel Park hostel is one of the best European YHA hostels. It is clean, the room is spacious and the price is fairly reasonable for the good condition that you get. The included breakfast is plentiful, buffet ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Youth Hostels in Amsterdam in general: Do not arrive on Friday!! (115 words)

Amsterdam is a great city to visit. If you were to come, do not arrive on Friday. Most of the budget accommodation, especially hostels are fully booked for the weekend. People flow into Amsterdam like a river on Friday, with the hope to have a good time over the weekend. On Friday, even if you are lucky, you’ll have to pay a lot more compared to weekdays. Last time I paid almost 40% extra. If you are stuck, let accommodation agents help you, for a fee. They are mainly located on the main street near the train station. If you must arrive on Friday, make sure you booked a room before hand. ...  Read the complete review
