Advantages: Tidy, Big rooms

Disadvantages: Brussels seem broing but it was a national holiday

I stayed in the Jacques Bre hostel last Ausgust. We stayed in this hostel whilst in Beligum over the weekend arriving into brussels at 3pm on a saturday afternoon from Paris, Surely a saturday afternoon was as good a time to visit as any.

I booked a double private ensuite bathroom room for Euro90 from the Hostelworld.com website for myself and my girlfriend to enjoy. The hostel was more then adequate. The room was a nice big room and the bathroom was also a reasonable size. The Beds were comfortable. The hostel is loctated within a five minute walk from the main metro line through the citry and is very easy to locate as it had a big sign ouside it. The hostel had an excellant entrance through a courtyard with a fountain in the middle of it

The hostel was very secure. Each person got a key card for thier visit and the key card only allowed access to certain parts of the building. Which gave you an extra feeling of been able to leave your stuff around without fear of it going missing. The room also offered 2 lockers, but sadly one in our room was broken.

The hostel offered a very good breakfest to help us on our way for our travels ahead with a wide variety of cheeses, meats and Cornflkaes. The hostel also had free internet access, a well stocked bar which also did food. The hostel also had a table tennis table in the middle of it which proved most popular.

We foound Brussells itself quite dull as we arrived on a saturday afternoon to find most things closed. We struggled to find a pub that was serving some of its famous beer but eventually found one near the hostel and enjoyed a couple of cherry beers. However the reason for this was that we visited on a national weekend which means that everything and I mean everything is closed.

Overall the hostel was a bright spot in a forgettable stay on our travels

Summary: Check when you visit Beligum - do not go on a national holiday

Sorry for the 'Useful' rate, but the typos really detracted from an otherwise good review - for instance Beligum, Cornflkaes, etc

I've never seen lockers in private hostel rooms (broken or otherwise).

Shame you didn't go another time as Brussels is lovely - a bit underrated and the beer is excellent.
